Guest guest
The teaching of sin seems to be a little screwed up ... i prefer the original greek word : hamartia, and a good basic translation of this word is from the Greek, hamartanein, " to miss the mark, err " Like an archer missing the bullseye... except the archer tries again and again ... and this is his 'education' ... until one day he hits the mark ... We make mistakes ... we miss the mark when it comes to acting out our intentions ... because we have other stuff that gets in the way ... some people more than others... some people learn to quieten their minds .. so that they are so aware of the smallest muscle tension that might pull the bow in the wrong direction ... some people have so much clutter in their heads that when they speak no-one understands... their intention is to do one thing .. but they do another ... some aim to protect and only end up hurting... " i only meant to help " the 'education' is METANOIA from the greek meaning 'transforming ones mind' .... later mis-translated from the Bible into 'repentance' ... so .. if one misses the mark .. observing the missing of the mark this person goes through a transformation of mind ... making small adjustments... lift the bow here... pull a little harder on the string ... and then tries again .. and this is a continual process until the mark is hit... this is how we learn stuff... so the Bible tells us the best way of learning... and the orthodoxy translates it into a massive means to social control.... sin and repent! unfortunately now when someone is er.. hamartic? (so to speak) ... you give em a good telling off ... how could they be so stupid!? ... he has sinned.... you must repent for your sins!! ... and the whole underlying meaning has been misunderstood ... so we miss the point as well .. and we fail to educate those who fail and ourselves when we fail... we fail to see when our minds need transforming ... because someone is shouting in our ear " ye sinner! repent before God! " ... " gosh, it's not cos i've never done this before ... it's because i am a sinner!! of course!! " and another person can call you a sinner for doing anything ... depending on their point of view (ie first priests preaching the gospel) ... " you dirtied my shirt - you are a sinner ... " " you are a woman - you are a sinner - (because women make me feel unGodly!) " ... etc... oh the Christian holymen had lots of fun throwing their authority about .... and then when lots of people sin ... no one knows what force is at bay ... so let's call it 'evil' ... and in calling it 'evil' you fail further to see where true metanoia is needed ... and thus there is going to be more hamartia - more sin ... because no one has been educated... in the end this process is so misunderstood that it doesn't even cross our minds ... and we personify the 'evil spirits' that of course must be causing all this 'evil' as 'satan' ... and we fail to see that the more we use the word 'evil' ... the stronger this concept of 'evil' becomes... we always need to look for the underlying processes at work .. before we use our labels... (at least let's understand our labels first ..) it made me think a lot about the word 'bad' .... [bible] it's not just an old book ... it's a badly translated one ... the translators wouldn't get a job these days...!
