I liked that post that turned up a while in the old vegan UK: I

think it was ian, he posted an article I think, that criticised the

labelling of vegans... Sorry for the vague refererence, but surely,

why should vegans we be labelled as " vegans " anyway? Ok there are

definitions in books such as the highly popular " Oxford dictionary "

(raah raah), but why exactly, because i choose to avoid animal

products altogethor as much as possible, should I be labelled as a

thing. Ok, its useful. Like I wouldn't have found this list if there

weren't a word for it.

Oh yeah thats what the article was talking about, something like the

word " vegan " implies that we hold moral superiority over others.

Even if we are morally superior than others, surely its not morally

superior to boast that fact by ponsing around calling ourselves

vegans??

In order to communicate we have to put people into groups. I'm happy to be grouped as a feminist /vegan/agnostic/ female /mother/etc

If I didn't want to be associated with a group I would change things

I think vegans are better in some ways ---they try not to cause harm even though it inconveniences their social life permanently and leaves them open to ridicule --perhaps on a daily basis

Its quite a big sacrifice/commitment as it may also severely reduce your chances of finding a partner

I don't think my using the term vegan means I an

m boasting anymore than it would be if I sad I am a mother or that I am British . I am merely giving people more of a picture of who I am

You don't have to tell anyone you are vegan if it bothers you but the young person who wanted advice on going veggie won't be able to ask you because he/she won't realise that you could help
