Guest guest
Do vegan Brits and Irish vegans get along in the UK? (I'd like to see that discussed.) Then I'd like to see it compared quantitatively with whether vegetarian Brits an Irish vegetarians get along well with one another, and to what extent social institutions and identity are serious factors for how vegetarians and vegans act in the world and relate with others. (I can already see that "religion" and "philosophy" (and personal values) are hot topics. Perhaps "politics" is ALSO a hot topic (which could/should/would be avoided among veg*ans). Maynard S. Guest guest
I don't know whether any vegans I know are Irish or not . Its not an issue I used to work with an Irish animal eater and we got on well -shared lifts etc . I was married to an Irish man who became veggie for me. We were together for 3 years but I left because he hit me twice and I felt frightened . I knew I could not live with such fear . he also poured orange juice over a kittens head who was trying to play with him and he wanted to annoy me ( I was telling him to play with her ) I don't see why the Irishness should be an issue . Vegans are vegans-----aren't they ? - Maynard S. Clark (AT) Groups (DOT) com ; JVS Thursday, April 04, 2002 2:09 AM Ethics of real vegans: How extensive and pure? Guest guest
My ex-friend MrBig is an Northern Irish Vegan married to a Cornish Vegan. They were both vegetarians when they met. MrBig became vegan the day after his Wedding (prepared buffet for 50 people themselves and thought it might be best to go vegan after that day). Mrs Big became Vegan one year later when their 1st child was born (Much to MrBiGs relief!) Bear in mind, they are both common as muck, and as far as cultural differences go, it's a villager vs towny thing; rather than an Irish vs English. But then MrBig was brought up on the Shankill Road, a loyalist stronghold in N.I. So he is culturally defined as British anyway, even though he shudders at the thought of it, and his relationship with MrsBigs tabloid reading " Pro-British " father is far from complimentry. Guest guest
> Do vegan Brits and Irish vegans get along in the UK? Beyond certain communities in Northen Ireland where there is an issue of nationality and politics at stake (and if you break down nationhood in such them and us way then, as 'British Irish' which side do you class them on?) why do you think Brits and the Irish wouldn't get along? Have you been watching to much CNN? Michael
Guest guest
> > Do vegan Brits and Irish vegans get along in the UK? what the $%@£ has being vegan got to do with getting on with someone? two Japanese people sitting in bus opposite you ... do you assume that they are friends? just because they are two people from a different culture together amongst a bus full of Westerners? they are probably hate each other... some of the words that flew around between Japanese overseas students at uni ... just like a bunch of brits would be over in Japan ... you see two cats ... will they get on or not? ... we just don't know till you put them in a box together... just cos A is bonkers and B is bonkers doesn't mean A will like B ... where bonkers is 'vegan', 'Royalist' 'French' 'a sausage' .... whether Brit vegans and Irish vegans get along is a matter of whether or not they get along ... there are no rules about it.... Guest guest
I still like you Oliver. When my old friend MrBig first moved to England/Wales...so many people would say to him... " oh you're Irish...I've got a friend who's Irish...I'll have to introduce you! " And MrBig would say to them " * & @%*% & @*$ & #%** $ & *@% & %*# & ^^ @$£ " # & £# " I think thats how it's spelt.
