Guest guest
One reason not to mix too much with animal-eaters, you won't end up offending them by refusing their food if you don't get that matey with them in the first place! Gawd, the family wedding we attended was awful, when they offered sparkling wine for the toast, Paul asked for proper champagne as an alternative. He asked to buy a bottle, as he was sure champagne is vegan whereas the wine might not be, and was treated as some sort of posh snob by the pub staff for asking, as they did not have champagne! It was a pub, and you would expect them to have some. It was in Winsford which is full of scousers, and at that pub they seem to be inverted snobs who on principle don't have champagne. For the record my husband is Liverpool-born. There is no excuse for them not having ready salted crisps or peanuts though. Of the wedding food, which was quite a spread, we did get hummus, salad, rice salad and pasta salad, all quite unseasoned, but everyone else got all manner of sandwiches, sausage rolls, vol-au-vents, and desserts too! Should not be too hard to get in some cheatin ham or mushroom pate or scheese, or vegan sausages, you would have thought, since they had heaps of notice there would be vegans there. I was mostly not impressed with the fact that they didn't even have a vegan dessert, since they were taking the trouble to make lots of desserts anyway, it should have not been a problem to make one that was vegan. Am I expecting too much to expect something comparable to what the animal-eaters get? The worst thing was we overheard the groom talking to some friends about the possibility of arranging to go to the races (dogs or horses) or hare-coursing, I was very upset and Paul was also quite shocked to hear him say this, and I just wish I had not gone to his wedding. My aunt has married this man, who is clearly a cruel and inhumane monster, worse than most animal eaters as he supports hare coursing. Besides the reception was very smoky and I was quite ill for several days afterwards. I would have not gone on principle if I had known he was a fan of hare coursing. Guest guest
what? > One reason not to mix too much with animal-eaters, you won't end up > offending them by refusing their food if you don't get that > matey with them > in the first place! if they are you friends then they know the restrictions you have placed on your diet.... none of my friends ever knowingly offer me products containing meat ... (normally it's just beer they offer me... anyway...) if we go out they consider where i can eat as well ... and if i go to their house they either tell me to bring my own food .. or they have a go at making something vegan ... and that's not difficult ... pasta and a sauce is fine ... thai currys ... indian curries ... if they offer me something with animals products .. i just say thanks but i can't eat it ... i certainly wouldn't go and offend them by telling them i can't be their friends because i would offend them if i refused their offerings... that would be bleedin' daft! > Gawd, the family wedding we attended was awful, when they > offered sparkling > wine for the toast, Paul asked for proper champagne as an > alternative. Guest guest
I went to a big family party last Saturday. My auntie knew I was a vegan and laid on salads and fruit. If there was just meat I would have been okay, because I took some bananas. I would NEVER eat meat/dairy to make someone feel better, and I always take some fruit or something just in case. My principles are too strong. Guest guest
Edith's quite quick to make judgements. How did you know I'd given up on my veganism? Didn't I explain that I was worried about everything including my health and wanted to read more on veganism and was thinking about getting a Tatoo? nah, I definately am not going to give up on veganism. Yeah and I've made mistakes. Loads, like replying to any of ediths emails. , " slg edith " <slgedith@h...> wrote: > Hello? Guest guest
Lesley has a fair point. I've recently made friends with a vegan lady and we get along so well and chat for hours on end. Its great to have someone come to my house who wants soya milk in their tea too!!! This is a new experience for me as I've always been the only vegan I've known (apart from in cyberland!!!). It was Lesley who encouraged me to be friends with this lady when I mentioned her to Lesley, and she was right. Its so refreshing to be friends with a vegan - not only do you have lots to talk about, but also you have peace of mind that you know that their food is the same as yours and you won't be offered dead animal sandwiches or roast dead animal. Believe me, its a stark contrast to my friendship with the big meat eating Christian.
