" What an absurd thing to say! Why should I not avoid the irritant, if I wish to? I'm mostly well when I avoid it and quite happy to do so! Even if my lungs and throat didn't react so badly to smoke I would still want to avoid it because I simply do not like it, the smell that gets into hair and clothes, the foul taste in the mouth from it in the air, and the fact that it can cause cancer even in non-smokers if they are exposed to enough second-hand smoke. Don't forget that I was exposed to a lot of it as a child, so I am probably more at risk than most non-smokers of developing cancer or other lung diseases. It is more than just an irritant, it is a deadly poison, or rather many deadly poisons, so we should be advised to avoid it even if we don't react badly to it at the time. Thanks for proving that your advice is not to be trusted, Reiki expert or not, anyone who tells me it would be OK to be around smoke if I could breathe around it is clearly off their trolley! I could not avoid it as a child, at least I can have some control over what I breathe now, and dammit I will always choose to avoid it and get very angry if people smoke around me! You simply do not get it, because you like something about smoking, you cannot understand how totally foul it is to a lot of us, who find it antisocial. (energy medicine)... the nutrional medicine therapist i went to treats all sorts of allergies by giving the body the resources to withstand the irritant... and by saying that i am not saying that once the sensitivity has gone you can go and jump in a pub because you no longer have a sensitivity to smoke... i am only saying that you will no longer feel ill when you inadvertently get caught in a smokey environment... and that has to be a good thing... whether you decide to leave or not is then a choice you can make and not an imperative... but at the moment it seems that it is always an imperative... and i think that must be very limiting for you... because you cannot go to a certain restaurant... or be with certain people... or be in certain offices... etc etc... > Even if my lungs and throat didn't react so badly to smoke I would still > want to avoid it because I simply do not like it, the smell that gets into > hair and clothes, the foul taste in the mouth from it in the air, and the yes... it is bloody awful... i really don't like it .. which is why i am actively giving up ... (a point which you seem to be disregarding every time i write it...) > fact that it can cause cancer even in non-smokers if they are exposed to > enough second-hand smoke. Don't forget that I was exposed to a lot of it as > a child, so I am probably more at risk than most non-smokers of developing > cancer or other lung diseases. we're pretty unlikely to get cancer from passing someone in the street who is smoking... we must give the body some credit for self cleansing... but you might get second-hand cancer if you're a stand- up comedian spending most of your time in smokey comedy clubs... or a non-smoker in a pub... it's a bigger risk... unfortunately you're more likely to fall ill if you do... therefore you don't have as much freedom to move around as most of us... but without the allergy to smoke you are freer.. because you don't get sick... which is your body saying .. hey wait i can't even cope with the tiniest amount of this... i must get away... and that kind of reaction is hard to live with... > It is more than just an irritant, it is a deadly poison, or rather many > deadly poisons, so we should be advised to avoid it even if we don't react > badly to it at the time. yes.. and so is mercury ... it is the most deadliest... and it's in our mouths... (not mine anymore... all replaced)... do you have any metal fillings? > Thanks for proving that your advice is not to be trusted, Reiki expert or > not, anyone who tells me it would be OK to be around smoke if I could > breathe around it is clearly off their trolley! it is not what i am telling you... i am telling you might be able to stop falling ill when you are around smoke... i am not telling you it is ok to be around smoke... i am saying that it's better to make the choice than be forced because you cannot tolerate... > I could not avoid it as a child, at least I can have some control over what > I breathe now, and dammit I will always choose to avoid it and get very > angry if people smoke around me! and children fed cows milk too early can become allergic to it ... but energy medicine may offer help to those children.. to adults who are allergic to milk and peanuts... etc... i am not proposing that people then eat peanuts or milk ... but occasionally there are times when a peanut is given to someone with an allergy in food or wherever... and they are going to die if they eat it... true, this is not the same as a smoke sensitivity... but the limitations placed on your freedom to move around without fear and their freedom to eat without fear is the same... > You simply do not get it, because you like something about smoking, you > cannot understand how totally foul it is to a lot of us, who find it > antisocial. > > Lesley i spend all day and every day correcting systems that are not functioning 100%.... whether that system be myself, someone else or something mechanical... i do nothing else but fix things... smoking is hard to give up... i have been concerned about it for a long long time... i have discussed this with non-smokers and smokers alike... i know your position and i know mine... i get it fine... do you?
