I have 79 acres of land here in wisc usa, and not only

do I not allow hunting (hunting for deer is the big

thing here) but i put out an open invitation to all

animals to find refuge here. have to admit tho that i

don't care for the skunks.

When I was a kid my family had a bit of land that they did the same thing with. It worked out for everyone; the little animals had a safe place to be when hunting season was on, and I had a safe bit of forest to play in. If hunting can't be stopped completely, I would at least like to see more property owners set aside parts of their land as a safe haven for the animals.

We have just a fairly large garden, with fields on two sides. The Duke of Northumberland owns the farm and they breed pheasants for shooting. Luckily some of them come in our garden, where they fill themselves on the wildbirdfood we put out. We even had them nesting under a bush one year. I just hope we help some of them escape the guns.
