Guest guest
>comes down to money, again!doesnt it >Who can buy the political agenda, who can buy the media, who can buy >bums on seats? >Sad,but true? > >Jak >No Jak, masses of poor people took to the streets to demand freedom for the famous Tolpuddle Martyrs and it wasn't the rich who stormed the Bastille or the Winter Palace in my history books either. It's also about media portrayal- CND used to regularly pull out 400, 000 on the streets of London in the mid 80's, but the media used to either ignore this, or put about 1 paragraph on page 7 of the paper, or include it as an 'and finally' item on the news, where they'd dismiss it as a few semi-terrorist cranks wandering about. Compare the headlines; Daily express calls the CA march a 'blow for liberty and justice', yet the headline that greeted CND's big march in 1984 was 'CND Join Hands With IRA'. Be interesting to see what kind of coverage Saturdays anti war march will get, however many attend... I bet the Express won't be issuing a 'special souvenier edition' to mark it the next day tho... (as they did today with the Countryside Bumkins-- sorry-- Alliance march) makes you wonder whose side the press is on doesn't it (yes that was supposed to be sarcastic BTW...)??? Guest guest
makes you wonder which members of the press are keen hunters... and which have second homes in the Home Counties ... say what!... " Ban Hunting! I say ... Let's televise this march and say it's All for Hunting... that'll convince everyone that Hunting is Wanted... .... hmm .... " " Stop the War campaign ... well we're at Tony's for tea next week so we'll be missing that one ... just stick it in the end slot we normally reserve for dancing parrots... oh and use 'our' figures not theirs ... say about 10,000 again .. eh?!
