Guest guest
Hi guys, I tried to log-on to the chat thing last Sat (11.10pm) but found no-one there - what gives? Did I do a dumb thing? "....The simple way to use it is to go to http://mavreela.com/vegan/chat.html and on the page enter a nickname and press connect, you can leave the email address blank." - I did that but zilch. Thanks (unf. I won't be able to make Weds but hopefully will on Sat??!) Idea - why don't we do a sorta poll or something and find out what proportion of members are vegan (or more to the point how long for)) or something it would be nice to have regular questions put to the group and then we can reply - but then would that be too much e-mail 'traffic'? Can't have one without the other I suppose. Sheesh am I in a chatty mood tonite??! Cheers and sweet dreams. I'll leave u in peace now Nick "Never, never, never, never, never give up!" Guest guest
>I tried to log-on to the chat thing last Sat (11.10pm) but found no-one >there - what gives? The first chat session was a bit of a failure, due mostly to 's own chat system. So I set up my own and the second went quite well, but it was suggested late on Saturday (when people are a bit more drunk) would be a good idea. So I set up automated reminders of these times, but as I was away I haven't been to one since the reminders started being sent to the group. I might join tomorrow night about 10pm though. The point of the two sessions is because people turned up in chat and no one else was there, and so by having arranged timeslots it should mean everyone turns up at the same time. They are by no means fixed though. You can use the chat room anytime you want, it would be advisable to mention about it on the group first though so people know when to turn up. Unfortunately the group isn't big enough to be able to bump into people unannounced. As for a poll, there is a poll facility on the group's site, fell free to make use of it. I think you will find most of us on here are vegans. I do mean to put profiles for all list members online at some point, but it is a stop-start affair, and one I am a bit too busy to do anything about at the moment. Feel free to go to the vegans uncensored section of my site (it should be linked from the chat page) and look at the profiles there, most of the members of that list are also member here. Finally, the idea of a topic of the week. The group has always been very informal, you can talk about anything you want and express any view you want (although on here the way you express it is restricted in the interests of keeping the list friendly). As such it has never seemed appropriate to have a topic of the week as it seems a forced way of getting people to talk. But if you wish to ask a different question of the list members every week then please feel free to do so. As moderator I don't want to say the list is about this-or-that, but as members you can make of the list as you wish, and if that is what you want then go ahead, if people are interested they will respond. Guest guest
Thanks Michael for that - much appreciated!! I will investigate and try the chat out!! I guess it is ok to ask 'ho hum' dumbo questions from time to time?? I suppose it is not just a way of exchanging information but also of giving/receiving support (especially those who haven't quite got the hang of it/got much support!) I'll leave it there for now - lest I get pasted for 'tying up the phone lines'!! Guest guest
you could make 'meeting time' daily at 10pm UK time (summer or winter time) ... the slot for an open Chat room ... just so people don't have to remember what day it is ... or for people who generally can't remember what day it is ... (but can tell the time) ... then it's pot luck whether you bump into someone or not ... but the probability would be higher... (apologies to all those people who go to bed before/at 10pm) O Mavreela [nec.lists]So I set up automated reminders of these times, but as I was away I haven't been to one since the reminders started being sent to the group. I might join tomorrow night about 10pm though.
