What I don't like is the way people who are idealogically hostile to vegans with kids find *practical* reasons to object to creches -- no room, no money, not enough demand etc, like it's a really huge deal or something when the real reason is they DON'T WANT TO PROVIDE A CRECHE COS THEY HATE THE IDEA OF KIDS! Leslie goes on about her personal situation too much but she is right to object to no creches at big Veg Soc meetings and the hostile message that sends out ESPECIALLY TO SINGLE MOTHERS WHO MAY NOT HAVE MUCH MONEY AND NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET! Or is veganism only for people who don't have to worry about money for food etc ??? Leslie was right too about holding Veg Soc AGMs in major cities other than London -- so she's TWO up against Rick who did NOT give a straight answer about the cancellation of the creche in London. --Slg poking out tongue _______________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

Do you really believe that there is an active conspiracy against vegan parents within the Vegan Society heirarchy? What other evidence is there apart from this crche business? Rick who did NOT give a straight answer > about the cancellation of the creche in London. What part of this reply isn't 'straight'? You might not agree with their reasoning, but it seems quite to the point to me... >Dear Cathy The Vegan Society has run a creche for many years at its AGM but the maximum take up has never exceeded 6 children; last year there were just two children. I would hope everyone can appreciate that the elected Trustees of the Vegan Society have to decide whether spending nearly £200 of the charity's hard-pressed resources is well-spent in providing a creche at the AGM. This year because ISIS, the previous creche providers, have ceased trading and because of the lack of demand year on year, the Trustees decided against organising a creche. Not that it really bothers me, I'm not a member anyway.
Guest guest
To Lesley's credit she is raising three vegan children - that should be something The Vegan Society should be pleased about. There aren't enough of us as it is but when a dedicated vegan is raising her three children vegan, that should be something The Vegan Society should acknowledge and help wherever possible at their functions. Its a shame that Lesley can't apparently get childcare at home but that's not her fault. Guest guest
SO, I am right quite a bit now? Does this mean we are friends enough again for you to start spelling my name right in future? Please? Well said about single mums too! They do the hardest job in the world all alone and for a pittance of subsistence money from the govt, unless they are one of the few who can get a really highly paid job that will pay enough to cover the childcare and their living expenses! I know loads of wonderful vegan single mums, the two little girls who write the vegan kids page are being raised by a single mum, who works full-time too, and she is amazing and they all do so much for animal rights, raising money for SHAC, etc. Lesley , " slg edith " <slgedith@h...> wrote: > >This is the nicey nicey moderated list, and I will ensure it stays >that > >way even if it means I have to get nasty > > > >So think before writing because I'm going to act first. > > > >Michael > > > Oh I LIKE it when the boys get tough! > > What I don't like is the way people who are idealogically hostile to vegans > with kids find *practical* reasons to object to creches -- no room, no > money, not enough demand etc, like it's a really huge deal or something when > the real reason is they DON'T WANT TO PROVIDE A CRECHE COS THEY HATE THE > IDEA OF KIDS! > > Leslie goes on about her personal situation too much but she is right to > object to no creches at big Veg Soc meetings and the hostile message that > sends out ESPECIALLY TO SINGLE MOTHERS WHO MAY NOT HAVE MUCH MONEY AND NEED > ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET! > > Or is veganism only for people who don't have to worry about money for food > etc ??? > > Leslie was right too about holding Veg Soc AGMs in major cities other than > London -- so she's TWO up against Rick who did NOT give a straight answer > about the cancellation of the creche in London. > > --Slg poking out tongue > > > > > _______________ > Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
Guest guest
I tried really hard to find some supportive veggie and vegan friends locally, but when I asked around them all if any of them would babysit occasionally for me and Paul to get some time together to go out, no-one would do it. It's not for want of trying that we have not found compatible substitute auntie and uncle and granny figures in our life, so I would agree it is not my fault that I cannot find a sitter. The last babysitter we had (not veggie) sat the two kids a few times, but can't cope with a baby because of her back trouble. It's probably in part because my son has some behaviour problems (he is on the autistic spectrum) that no-one we have met through the Chai meals was willing to help.
