Guest guest
NATIONAL VEGAN WEEK (UK) This is a copy of a press release sent out to local Press & Radio today. 29 October 2002 Press Release World Vegan Day is Friday November 1st. AND National Vegan Week is 28th Oct to Sat Nov 2nd A group of Local Vegans are celebrating it by organising a meal out at Tricolos Italian Restaurant at 7 for 7.30 pm on WEDNESDAY OCT 30th! We are arranging with Tricolos to have a varied Vegan list of recipes for a party of Veggie people on that day. The reasoning behind this is to help educate non-veggie restaurants into being able to provide Veggie meals that are suitable for all tastes whether Vegan, Vegetarian or Omnivorous. If something is VEGAN then ANYONE can eat it. So by providing a few Vegan dishes, they can cater for vegetarians of all kinds. That would mean that anyone who is any kind of vegetarian, including vegans, can rest assured that they will get a suitable meal, and the restaurant does not have to go to too much trouble to provide something good and satisfactory. The other idea of having this meal is to get publicity for the Veggie movement as a whole. One of the troubles is that a lot of non-veggie people think that vegetarians live off only the vegetables that are on a normal ominvore's plate! We need to show that veggie meals are not only healthy but APPETISING and LOOK good, and are NOT just what is left over after taking away the meat. Chris has found that when eating at a hotel or restaurant with non- veggie people, many look at his lovely plateful and wished they had ordered Vegan! He usually eats everything off his plate; they usually leave something! Even people who ordered vegetarian have said this to him. The third idea is for the Scarborough Area Veggie people to have an enjoyable meal out and get to know each other better. We hope that if this venture is successful, then something similar could be organised in several other restaurants and hopefully `educate' them as well. If, say, every two months we gradually visited EVERY main Scarborough restaurant, then we would be doing something positive. There are just over 20 people attendending this meal at Tricolos, most age groups are represented If there are other Vegans or Vegetarians in the are who would like to join this group for future events please contact Chris & Dilys Chris Phillips Scarborough North Yorks Email chris
