Guest guest
Press Release 31 October 2002 Chris Phillips Email chris Vegans celebrate Vegan Week at Local Restaurant World Vegan Day is Friday November 1st. AND National Vegan Week is 28th Oct to Sat Nov 2nd A group of 25 Local Vegans and vegetarians celebrated by organising a meal out at Tricolos Italian Restaurant onWednesday Oct 30th. We arranged with Tricolos to have a varied Vegan menu for a party of Veggie people. The reasoning behind this is to help educate non-veggie restaurants into being able to provide Veggie meals that are suitable for all tastes whether Vegan, Vegetarian or Omnivorous. If something is VEGAN then ANYONE can eat it. So by providing a few Vegan dishes, they can cater for vegetarians of all kinds. That means that anyone who is any kind of vegetarian, including vegans, can rest assured that they will get a suitable meal, and the restaurant does not have to go to too much trouble to provide something good and satisfactory. The other idea of having this meal was to get publicity for the Veggie movement as a whole. One of the troubles is that a lot of non-veggie people think that vegetarians live off only the vegetables that are on a normal ominvore's plate! We need to show that veggie meals are not only healthy but APPETISING and LOOK good, and are NOT just what is left over after taking away the meat. Tricolos provided us with three delicious main courses and three wonderful afters. The choices were: Fusilli with Zucchini: Wholewheat pasta in a sauce of courgette, onion, peppers and tomato slightly spiced with chilli Stir Fried Vegetables: A selection of vegetables, nuts, raisins, pineapple and soy sauce, served with rice noodles Vegetable Pizza: A pizza base with a tomato sauce with chargrilled vegetables Dessert: Fruit Salad Swedish Glace Vegan Chocolate Cake A soya cream or Swedish glace were added to the cake or Fruit salad. The diners were very happy with the fare that Tricolos provided, and many expressed the wish to repeat the exercise in the future. We are very grateful to Tricolos for going to the trouble to provide something different for us, and it was MUCH appreciated. We know now that Tricolos is a place that Vegans & Vegetarians can visit and get a splendid meal, though obviously Tricolos would appreciate an advanced warning of any special diets that need catering for. We now know that people are interested in something similar being organised in several other restaurants and hopefully `educating' them as well. We hope every two months, say, to gradually visit EVERY main Scarborough restaurant. If there are other Vegans or Vegetarians in the are who would like to join this group for future events please contact Chris & Dilys at the above address. Perhaps others may feel that they would like to do something similar. The Local Press reporter promised to join us for our next such venture, to try one of our meals. Love Peace & harmony Chris PS We now have about 40 local known veggies in Scarborough, of whom at least 12 are Vegan.
