RE: AGM social

I apologise for offending the staff, but I do think that it would be helpful

and appropriate since they are so overworked to put appeals in the magazine

for further volunteers, for creches (qualified nurses, nannies, teachers,

etc, there must be plenty of members with the appropriate skills and

qualifications, I know some such vegans personally), as this would cut the

costs quite a bit, and also for volunteers for entertainment and activity

organising at the social, especially for someone to do something

family-friendly, if the staff do not have time to arrange it all. I was hurt

and angry, because of that one rude woman at the AGM, but I am sorry the

fallout from this came back on people who did not deserve it.

Dear Lesley

Your recent postings on UK Vegan have greatly offended the staff with the

implication that they have endless spare time on their hands to organise

children friendly, all inclusive social events after the AGM. On top of our

very heavy workloads, the AGM requires a good deal of preparation, hire of

hall, arranging catering (and creches), preparation, printing and mail out

of the accounts, paperwork for the day, lists of members, hire of van, goods

for sale, setting up the hall etc etc The staff have to set off from St

Leonards at about 8am to ensure that they are in London in time to get the

hall ready for the AGM and, even without a full blown social, we do not get

back home until around 9pm - how long a day would you like us work on a

Saturday?
