Guest guest
Isn't any kind of social whatsoever a sign of the organizers going a step beyond the call of duty ? Complaining that they're passing the buck seems a little low... Not sure how many AGMs of *any* sort you'll find with family-friendly facilities afterwards rather than a cheap bar and loud music. If the social becomes a big thing, I do think there is a chance that people will *just* go for a social without being bothered to think about what the day is really about... the AGM. (That's my 2p... will now avoid being drawn into this any further) Steve W.
Guest guest
How popular is the AGM ? Do we want it to be more popular or less ? Do we keep things the way all AGM's are or do we decide to be inivative ? Guest guest
Hear hear! I too, don't want to be drawn into this and 'take sides' but personally I would like something 'extra' not just an AGM - I only live 30 miles away so would take only an hour to get there - but what about those who live further afield??!!! It is a chance to catch up with friends (as well as make new ones). That being said, the AGM should be the main focus, with an emphasis on 'breaking down barriers' and how to keep moving forward ( not just a 'pat on the back' and review of the previous year). As to whether the VS should lay on an elaborate social event...it is not really fair for them to spend lots of effort on arranging the actual AGM without having to arrange a social too however if enough members wish to organise a social themselves - as Lesley is willing to do - then that is great and encourages participation as well as taking some of the pressure off. Guest guest
Exactly Vegans don't need to copy other societies and just have boring AGM's just because that is the normal thing to do . After all we have recently established that many of us are a little weird anyway and antisocial !!! perhaps we need some practise at socialising What a good place to start Nick Abbott [nabbott] 03 November 2002 00:33 RE: AGM Social Hear hear!
