I emailed Safeway yesterday asking if there was any chance they could

introduce more vegan food into the store. Just got the below reply. Thought

someone might like to read it.

Re: Safeway/Letters - Re. Vegan Food

Hi Shari

Thanks for your recent e-mail regarding the above.

Vegetarian and vegan foods are becoming more popular and for this reason we

are launching a new vegetarian range of foods in the Spring, a number of

these will also be suitable for vegans.

At the moment I'm afraid we do not label products that are suitable for

vegans and we are unable to update our vegan foods list as our product

database is not currently set up to run this query.

In the meantime if there are any products you are unsure about please

contact us and we can look them up individually for you.

Regards

Becky

Which may no longer happen after todays announcement that Safeway is

being bought out by Morrisons.

I've always found that Safeway had a better range than Morrisons, so

this is probably bad news.

Our Safeways (Dominick's here) are in the middle of a huge Union

dispute and they are trying to sell all their stores. Could thing

they just spent millions redoing/upgrading all the Chicagoland stores.

about every 4-5 yrs they have a huge labor disoute with safeway here, it tends

to rotate, one time its the baggers and stockers, next its with the loaders and

truckers, etc..generally safeway tries to make everyone work less then 30 hrs a

week(then ya lose medical and health benefits), the union protests, safeway

locks em out, they bicker fer several months, safeway appears to back down, and

they back to work, and safeway does it all over again...

ah..fun fun fun

I dunno - this was pretty real

just before X-mas, all departments of each Chicagoland and

surrounding area stores were in negotiations - it almost came down to

a strike

then they decided that Safeway would look for a buyer and they signed

something like 3-6 month hold on the strike

and inside sources tell me they have 3 different buyers looking

i think this is a done deal here

no biggie to me, never liked safeway anywho

now gramma tho, not sure where i will have to take her shopping if

they sell
