Guest guest
Hi, I'm a migraine sufferer - never found anything that worked (even non-vegan) because I couldn't keep it down long enough. But age seems to be helping, my attacks started to get milder after 35. Guest guest
Do you know what triggers it ? Can you avoid it ? I only get it mildly but my trigger is fluorescent strip lights (especially if flashing) , and bright sunny days (especially when in the car with trees flashing by ) I make a point of avoiding these situations Of course as I said mine is mild so it may be harder for you to work out the course . Best wishes migraine appologies if this subject came across b4, but i only joined few days ago, so...who knows of a alternative painkiller to a migraine sufferer. please don't offer oils, accupuncture, teas etc, as am talking seriously bad migraine that used to be treated with neurofen and migraleve. Can't help with anything vegan, but the way I look at it is: 1. You can't function when you've a migraine, so you can't be of any use to anyone, including animals. 2. As a vegan, you are likely to use *far* less pharmaceuticals than omnivores, so you are already reducing the profits of the pharm industry. 3. It's not our fault that these products are tested on animals - even water has been used in animals experiments and you can hardly avoid that. It is far more important that you campaign against vivisection than that you become a martyr to a migraine when a couple of tablets would get rid of it. Having said all that, if you are purist then I can't help. I have suffered from crippling migraines since I was 8. A couple of years ago I discovered that the main trigger for me is caffeine withdrawal. So now I barely touch the stuff - 1 or 2 cups per week max - and I have gone from a bad head every 2 weeks or so, to maybe half a dozen per year, with greatly reduced severity. I used to spend most Saturdays with my head down the loo. Now I can't remember the last time I was sick with a bad head. When I do get them, I use Propain - definitely not vegan, sadly. I am utterly pure vegan in every other respect, which is my only excuse. If living with migraine would stop vivisection then I would - no question. But it won't, and I can be far more effective if I am functional that if I am in bed hoping to die. Cheers Cathy
Guest guest
Dear Cathy, I just wanted to say that I think what you have written was put so eloquently. I know it's not an easy issue to deal with. I used to work for an international animal rights organisation and I received numerous calls from very traumatised people with mental illness who had stopped taking all their medication and now wanted to know what to do next. While we don't have the choice we have to do the best we can. xx "cathyjupp <cj" <cj wrote: , "Sky <veganae>" <veganae> so...who knows of a alternative painkiller to a migraine > sufferer. please don't offer oils, accupuncture, teas etc, as am > talking seriously bad migraine that used to be treated with neurofen > and migraleve. Thank you - it's something I've thought about a lot as I would guess have most vegans. I really do think the most important thing is to look after ourselves so that the issue of medication arises as infrequently as possible. And of course to campaign just as hard as we can so that it doesn't have to be an issue at all for vegans in the future! I know it's not an easy issue to deal with. I used to work for an international animal rights organisation and I received numerous calls from very traumatised people with mental illness who had stopped taking all their medication and now wanted to know what to do next. That is so dradful - and yet so heartwarming to think that there are people wiling to risk their very sanity to spare animals more suffering. Such courage! While we don't have the choice we have to do the best we can. Amen! Good to talk to you! Cathy xx
