Guest guest
For how many reasons, now let's see, 1. The real fur red noses that were made for Comic Relief - I found it almost unbelievable that Comic Relief did something so stupid and cruel because even many meat-eaters are anti-fur, and this above all for me shows that the top brass of this charity have no respect for animals at all, and are out of touch with public opinion on fur. 2. Gordon Ramsey is a big supporter of it as well as hater of vegetarians, maybe not a logical reason really but it did start to get me thinking more about boycotting it because of his anti-veg comments which were in an interview promoting Comic Relief, so what does that say about Comic Relief's level of respect for vegetarians that the charity did not publicly dump him immediately in disgust? http://www.skynews.co.uk/skynews/article/0,,30500-12262818,00.html 3. People directly exploit animals to raise money for it, and apparently this is OK with Comic Relief. http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_218656.html?menu= 4. It is coercive the way we are being practically forced to give to it, all the schools are supporting it and you feel you have to opt out rather than opt in. It is not appropriate in my opinion for charities to do this, because some of us might prefer to give to other charities. Charity should be supported as a matter of freedom of choice not coercion, and I shall be contacting both my children's headteachers with the reasons why my children will not be bringing money in for this on Friday, but it is a big headache for me having to explain and I would prefer not to be put in this position. 5. There is of course no guarantee that the money will not be used to fund animal farming projects so we would rather give to Vegfam, or HIPPO charity. http://www.ivu.org/articles/net/hippo.html Any other thoughts? Guest guest
I agree that we are forced via our children to give to Comic Relief . Just refuse to give and make sure your kids are happy to stand out and say that they are giving their money to ----. I have always done that with cancer collections , Comic relief always sememed ok to me until now (fur ). I have never given moneybut I think my son will to avoid being different . I think it needs letters to the newspapers to comment on the coercion parents feel if kids have to pay 50p to wear non uniform I would send them in non uniform and send a note to the teacher to say that-- I would not allow my kids to be the only ones in uniform as that might encourage bullying Of course the school is actually bullying the parents anyway " Pay 50p or else your kid will have to stay in uniform and be laughed at by all the other kids " Sick of Comic Relief (and some alternatives to support)!
