I'm back, about time too it seems. Actually though I'm not angry, I'm

not even surprised, this always happens. For the next time I go away

though we will either need a deputy mod or I will have to close the

list while I'm away. I don't want the latter so a volunteer would be

greatly appreciated.

 

I didn't really want to take any action, for a long time while reading

I was planning to do nothing but send this email. At some point

though, I now forget what it was, Edith crossed the line and has been

moderated. I'm sure I will now get pilloried on other lists for being

a draconian dictator. Whatever.

 

I'm not a teacher though. I shouldn't need to tell people what they

did wrong, you know who you are and what you did (and Lesley in case

you don't - you are one of them). The rules are there, if people can't

follow them I will take action.

 

Some people think I'm big on rules but this list started out without

any, everything was added, and the list split, based on events that

have happened. I also don't remember most of the rules myself, but I

know why they were written and I act on my best judgment so please

don't go around quoting the rules to each other as it doesn't mean

anything to me. It is a lot easier for me to send a nasty email now

and again then to do take action against someone, and I'm sure other

people think this is a better way for me to run the list. I will act

when necessary though. If people have a complaint about the behaviour

of list members please tell me your concerns, don't tell me what I

should do.

 

As for the smoking debate, tedious yes, it's also off topic. It took a

long time for the subject line to be amended, and even then it was not

marked as being off topic. There is nothing wrong with being tedious,

just make sure people are sufficiently informed.

 

Other comments - Was Angie joking? One of the guidelines of the list

is to not rush to judgment, get to " know " someone before complaining

about them. Anyone who does so would never take Angie seriously.

 

Is there anything else I've forgotten? If there is I'm sure you can

imagine the response I would give so I think that's all.
