Guest guest
Kirsty Mitchell [Kirsty.Mitchell] 01 May 2003 17:40 Channel 4 Documentary series Hi, I work for a London based television company called RDF Media. I am writing to ask for your help with research we are doing for our next production, a documentary series we are currently making for Channel 4. The aim of the programme is to look at the home-lives of modern day families and in a fun way, compare the philosophies of two families who are juggling the same responsibilities and also compare their views on childcare, religion, education, parenting and general domestic duties. The families will get the chance to step back and look at their relationship dynamic, how they make decisions, how they manage their home-lives and generally run their households. The two families will be have the same stresses and strains as the other but choose to adopt a different approach. We would like a great variety of families but we are currently looking for families who have made lifestyle choices to be Vegan or Vegetarian and/or have strong animal welfare and environmental views. I was wondering if you may be interested or whether you would be able to forward this information on to anyone who may be interested in taking part in the documentary series. I hope to find a lively family with a good sense of humour and outgoing personalities and who live life to the full with activities and interests. I am particularly keen that the series move beyond basic household debates such as who does the cooking, cleans the bath room, raises the children and etc. and explore the fundamental choices people make about their families and households such as education and parenting. Where people choose to live and how that informs their perspective on family life and running a home is a major part of this. The film is made by asking each family to write a set of brief instructions about how their own house is run, from its ethos down to the practicalities. Then we give each household a taste of the other family's choices by asking them to swap instruction manuals. To add a fun twist, we ask the women in each house to trade places for ten days in order that for the first five days the women can try and slot into their new family's systems, routines and habits, and then for the second half the new family agree to try out some of the new woman's own ideas. At the end of the swap-over, both families meet up and talk about what they've got out of the experience. Being involved in the filming should be a fun and challenging experience. Each programmes filming period will take place over 12 days with the first programme being shot at the end of May and as there are six programmes in all filming will continue until August. If you are interested in finding out more or know some one else who may be, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
