Guest guest
and quinoa ... you can get puffed quinoa in some health food stores but it is coated in syrup so not good for sugar addicts.... however the grain can be used instead of cous cous or bulgar wheat or rice... but is related to spinach apparently... Personally I'm really bad at breakfast... however, I do find muesli / cereal and the Provamel / Alpro soy yogurt is a pretty good start to the day (especially with more interesting cereal to pad it out). I'm unsure as to how good combining vegan with other dietary restrictions is for a starting-out vegan... However, protein is easy, as it's basically nuts & grains, and almost any veggie staples have a decent quantity of either / both. Personally, the stereotypical " big pot of lentils " works best as a cheap / effective source, 'though getting some grains regularly (breakfast / cereal) makes sure of all those balancing acts that people say we should do with proteins... My best / most up to date source of general info re. veganness is the " little book " ... i.e. th Vegan Society's " Animal Free Shopper " aka " Cruelty Free Shopper " . It'll tell you what's okay, gives a decent overview of why other things aren't and tells you whether E numbers are / may be / aren't okay. Good luck, and welcome to the list, Steve
