Guest guest
I think I am interpreting the Sense of self differently from the way it was meant .I took it to mean considering oneself as important putting oneself first . those I know who seem to do that do not consider others and animals would come nowhere near. John Davis [mcxg46] 06 August 2003 13:21 OT Sense of Self Hi, About a week late and off topic, I know, but... >Doing a demo helps you to lose the sense of self What is so special about >Self when lives are being lost ? Self only lasts for 70 odd years ? A sense of self is, essentially, self consciousness, or self awareness (a sense a that you are a self). So without it, you would have no perspective from which to judge whether your actions are right or wrong, and would not be able to make moral decisions such as going to a demo or becoming a vegan. Guest guest
Hi, Ah, yes, if you define Sense of Self that way, then I agree with you entirely. I'm not sure that's the common definition though - what you describe seems more like self importance, or possibly selfishness. It never fails to surprise me just how many apparent disagreements are basically just down to semantics or misunerstanding, and not actual disagreement after all! Guest guest
also when people talk about 'consciousness' and 'love' ... the concepts have different meanings to different people... > > John Davis [mcxg46] > > Hi, > > Ah, yes, if you define Sense of Self that way, then I agree > with you entirely. Guest guest
Very True Hi, Ah, yes, if you define Sense of Self that way, then I agree with you entirely. I'm not sure that's the common definition though. It never fails to surprise me just how many apparent disagreements are basically just down to semantics or misunerstanding, and not actual disagreement after all! --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
