It's always a good idea to check these stories before forwarding them

accross the 'net.

No, it has not. According to the amnesty website the message links to,

the case has not yet reached the supreme courts.

The Katsina state appeal court hearing is on 25 September. I'm not sure

whether " hearing on her execution " is meant to imply a final sentencing

hearing, or is just a melodramatic turn of phrase.

A good idea.

A good way to get killfiled.

Although Lesley did not write the email, she did forward it to many

mailing lists without checking it.

OTOH maybe Dr Ian believes in following the "Star Trek prime directive" wrt other cultures? What a load of bull that is and they usually find a way around it anyway even in Star Trek!

No, it's actually more likely his response is a way to have a little dig at me because he can't stand me! I can't think why though. Most people don't complain about this kind of appeal being forwarded, I just think you are being petty anyway. You should be ashamed considering someone who did nothing wrong might well be about to be executed in a few weeks time. Why not take up your problem with Sophie and Stephen? See what they have to say. I'm deleting real spam all the time, p*nis enlargements, Viagra sales, porn spam, and Nigerian or other usually African sob stories which are con trick appeals for money partnerships, they are the real spam problem on the 'net, not emails like this which is a genuine appeal for help!

So sorry for not living up to your expectations and not being a logical enough vegan for your liking, Mr Spock oh great one.

So killfile me! See if I care.

It came from a reputable source, Sophie and Stephen the Vegan contacts from Reading, and Patricia Tricker the contacts coordinator also forwarded it. I don't usually forward these things, it seemed urgent

I can, posts like this one. Ian responded to say the forwarded message

was factually inaccurate and you in turn accuse of him having some Star

Trek obsession and start a tirade of personal abuse. That may be

welcome on the other list this was cross-posted to, not here.

Yes he did say you should have checked it, but you defended yourself

well in saying that it came from a reputable source. You second

response was unnecessary and uncalled for.

Hey I don't dislike Star Trek, I quite like it and Paul watches it, and I did not see where I accused Ian of an obsession, but sorry if I went over the top, I just did not expect anyone to criticise this message. I always feel Ian picks on me and I don't know why, maybe he is like that with other people too, but I've not noticed. Maybe I should just have ignored him, anyway I'm forwarding his corrections to Sophie and Stephen, assuming he has the facts right. Am I taking this way too personally?

Apologies Ian, I know I was taking your criticisms much too personally, whenall you were doing was trying to be accurate, Sophie checked and agreed someof her email was misleading, anyway Amina Lawal has been acquitted today, which I hope we all agree is good news.http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20030925_395.htmlLesley~~ info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Please remember that the above is only the opinion of the author, there may be another side to the story you have not heard.---------------------------Was this message Off Topic? According to an article I read in (I think) the Grauniard (may have

been the Independent) there are 5 other women, but three have now

also been aquited, there hadn't been a decision on the other two at

time of writing.

Presumably they were'nt the first and may not be the last though.

However it would seemthat international pressure such as by Amnesty

is certainly making a difference and getting the laws changed, which

can only be a good thing.

Yes, it just goes to show how important it is to support groups like

Amnesty in the long term. I used to be a member for some years but

I'm currently lapsed - I'll have to get organised again.

Dear all,

Something Leslie touched on in this mail. I too am getting exactly the same spam

e-mails that she has listed. I was wondering if everyone on this list gets them

too. This would seem to indicate that we have been infiltrated! and maybe

someone is passing our e-mail addresses on......Peter is this possible?
