sparklers (from one source) contain a mixture of nitrate of barium, aluminium powder, magnesium powder, iron filings, dextrin and gum ... ? perhaps ...

some fireworks it seems contain shellac ... about 1 in 10 ...

i can't find (so far) any references to gelatin in fireworks .... only in gelatin dynamite... (which is thus not vegan...)

Lesley Dove [Lesley] I am sure I heard somewhere that sparklers, like matches, contain gelatineor some animal product. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is true?Lesley

Thanks, that sounds reasonably OK, my daughter wants me to get some sparklers tomorrow as we are off to a bonfire do at a local high school.

We still have several boxes of very old matches in the cupboard from many years ago (leftovers from hubby's days as a smoker), so for lighting the sparklers we don't need to buy any new matches.
