Sorry to be off topic but at a recent Swansea Vegans meeting somebody

told me about this website

www.veggieromance.com

Its the only free match making site for veggies/vegans that I know

of, and its really really good, quite innovative with some of its

features. Its really free though, no credits or 3 day trial stuff -

its paid for by adverts on the site.

Anyway, worth registering to make new friends with the similar views.

See you there

While I wish this site well, it doesn't seem to have many members -

about 3 vegans last time I looked. And it seems to be linked to all

sorts of other non-veg*n databases, such as yoga and cycling, and you

only ever seem to get matches from these other databases, which isn't

much use if you're looking for fellow veg*ns. On top of all that,

they've been doing a lot of spamming over the past few months, no

doubt trying to get their numbers up into double digits, which is not

a great way to win friends and influence people.

An infinitely better site for friendship/dating/etc is veggiedate.org

- it's free for the first 3 months and it has thousands of members

from all over the world (mostly US and UK).

But not everyone can afford the fees of other such organisations, so I think for people who want this type of service we should be encouraging the free one to grow, unless you think that only wealthy people deserve to find love, that is. If that growth of free matchmaking sites is at the expense of the sites charging money (especially the really expensive ones) then so be it, and personally I am not all that happy at ppl cashing in so hugely on others' loneliness the way some of these ppl clearly do. I remember a few years ago a friend of mine wanted to join a veggie matchmaking organisation (VMM I think it was) but for her as a single mum on benefits, and pretty much unable to get work because of having an autistic child with severe learning difficulties and very difficult behaviour, so normal childcare arrangements were not an option, it was way too expensive for her to join so she had to forget the idea of seeking Mr Right. I considered them a bit elitist for being inaccessible to my friend who is one of the sweetest kindest ppl anyone could wish to meet.

Also how are these new free services supposed to let people know about themselves other than by posting on the relevant groups? What is the alternative really? You might call it spamming but if the groups are relevant I don't see why you get so offended? I'm not looking for these sites myself but I certainly don't get offended by them posting on veggie and vegan groups. It's the porn spam and other irrelevant crap that gets posted onto veg groups that we need to get stopped.

You seem to have a bit of a bee in your bonnet about spam, but you don't distinguish between the relevant and the irrelevant type. I don't understand why you can't make special allowances for those who are trying to help their fellow veggies and vegans.

I don't know if you read my entire message Lesley, but veggiedate.org

is FREE for the first 3 months. Even after the initial 3 months it is

very cheap compared to the alternatives, including VMM. Instead of

criticising perhaps you should check it out ?

It's not just the - they've been sending out personal

spam too. You might like to receive spam, but I don't - I already get

hundreds a day and I don't need any more, thanks, especially from

people who should know better. It's particularly annoying when you

get the same spam from the same person over and over again. I don't

think that constitutes a " bee in the bonnet " - you and fidyl seem to

be the only people I've ever heard of who approve of spam. In case

you didn't know, spam is now illegal in most countries, and for good

reasons.

Can you believe that I actually know someone who met and married

another Vegan from a Vegan dating list?!

[it was one you had to pay to join]

Their daughter is celebrating her first birthday this week!
