Guest guest
=== Questions about you ===1/ What is your name (or what do you like to be called)? Anna2/ How old are you (a rough idea will do)? 303/ Do you know many vegans in real life? None :-(4/ How long have you been a vegan, and how long vegetarian before that? I've been vegan for all of two weeks now. I've been vegetarian for six months.5/ Why did you become vegetarian/vegan (if you are neither it would be useful to explain why you joined this list)?I never have been comfortable with the idea of eating meat, and day by day it just disgusted me more and more, both from the animal suffering point of view and the 'I'm putting a dead animal into my body' point of view. I've been wanting to go vegan for quite some time, but finally took the plunge about 2 weeks ago and can't describe how wonderful and liberating it feels.=== Questions about your area ===6/ Whereabouts do you live? Devon7/ How good a place is it for vegans? Not very, from what I have experienced so far. No pure vegan restaurants/shops that I am aware of, and the only vegetarian restaurant in the whole city is Indian - which is fine, but a bit more choice would be nice.=== Questions for fun ===8/ Which is your favourite type of bean? Not sure if I have a favourite, but I do have a dis-favourite - I hate chickpeas. Even the mere sight of them puts me off :-(9/ What is your favourite country, or region, to visit? I haven't been to nearly as many places as I would like, but I particularly liked Prague and Scotland.10/ What types of film do you like?As a full time working mum of two little ones, the luxury of watching an entire film is a dim and distant memory ... :-) 11/ What was the last meal you ate? Breakfast was a dish of oatmeal made with soya milk (lovely), and am currently sipping a cup of green tea (another wonderful new discovery).12/ Are you a morning, evening or night person?Morning definitely ... that, and about 3 o'clock in the middle of the night - I like to wake up in the middle of the night and do some reading (it is the only quiet, uninterrupted moment I can find! :-) )=== Questions for dull administrative purposes ===13/ How did you find out about this list?I don't quite recall to be honest. I've been trawling here and there and everywhere for vegan resources/information/people, particularly UK based, and stumbled across and found it under the Vegan directory there.=== Other comments ===14/ If there is anything else you want to add to the above please feel free to do so. Guest guest
Hi! I'm from Devon too. What part are you from? I'm from Exeter. I've found it quite a good place for vegans/animal rights, maybe because I've been 'into it' for so long There's a group in Exeter, Exeter Friends For Animals (EFFA) who do leafletting, occasional demos, monthly info stalls etc. There seems to be quite an active group in Plymouth, and I believe there's also North Devon Animal Defence, and groups in places like Torquay. There's only one veggie restaurant in Exeter, which isn't too bad, maybe a bit pricey. I like the fact I have a choice of vegan ice creams, cake etc for 'afters'! And there's quite a few health food shops yay! Welcome to the group! , Anne Smith <cheeriosvegan> wrote: > === Questions about you === > > > === Questions about your area === > > 6/ Whereabouts do you live? > Devon > > 7/ How good a place is it for vegans? > Not very, from what I have experienced so far. Guest guest
There's usually a monthly EFFA stall in Exeter, in Bedford Square which is on the High Street. That's on Saturdays. Also as I mentioned there's occasional leafletting/demos. When they first started there were regular meetings, but they've stopped now. There's two co- ordinators, Sharon (email su1842 ) and Martin (I don't have the email address close to hand, sorry). I believe there's some information on the SARC website (Southern Animal Rights Coalition) www.sarconline.co.uk look under 'local groups'. Also there's usually a South West Festival of Vegetarianism/Living Without Cruelty Fair (whatever you want to call it) around May or June. Unfortunately it's not happening this year cos the usual organiser wants to do something REALLY BIG next year and so is going to focus on that. But we'll probably do something anyway, have some stalls and stuff in Bedford Square like we did last year. So keep a look out for that, hope to see lots of people there! I might post when the details are sorted out, if there's people actually near enough to come! And hope to see new faces on demos/at stalls Also there's likely to be a coach or minibus going up from the SouthWest to the national demo in Cambridge on the 17th April. Check the SHAC websit www.shac.net.org for details. Yay go animal rights , " John Davis " <mcxg46@d...> wrote: > Hi, > > I've just moved to the Exeter area myself (Credition), and am looking to get > involved in AR here...Can you let me have some more info about the EFFA? > > John
