Guest guest
Hi, The only vegan foods I know (happidog, wafcol, veggiepet, judge's choice, yarrah, wackidog) are dried foods. But try this site - it lists various companies according to whether they test on animals, and gives numbers to ring to find out more, so you could see if they sell vegan products. http://www.uncaged.co.uk/petfood.htm Though out of interest, why moist food? Dried tends to be better for them, or at least, better for their teeth, though you have to give them access to plenty of water to avoid possible liver problems later in life. I think all dog foods are tested on animals, it's kind of inevitable at some point 8-) Michael
Guest guest
Hi Michael, Well, yes. But there is a big difference between the food tasting tests carried out at home by volunteer owners (well, their pets I suppose, though I guess they don't volunteer themselves), and animal testing as conducted by companies such as IAMS. Guest guest
Hi, Shari -- It's a bit of a poo, really, as there aren't any moist, vegan dog foods here. In the States, there are loads. If you really don't mind that it's not vegetarian, then the best food, by miles, is Yarrah. Check them out on yarrah.com. At least, it's organic and no chance it's tested. Alternatively, you could always crush some dry Yarrah vegan dog food and mix it with Missing Link Vegetarian, olive oil, and rice or oats. There's loads of stuff you could try, though does Sammi have to be very careful about his diet? Could i also suggest that you get in touch with Damian at Veggiepets.com? They might be willing to source a tinned, vegan dog food from the States if there's some demand for it. They're really good, they are. Let me know if you need any other info. xxk@xx On Mar 15, 2004, at 22:04, Shari wrote: > Does anyone know of moist canned dog food in the UK which is either > vegan or at least not tested on animals? > > <3 > Shari Black Velvet > > > ~~ info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Please remember that the above is only the opinion of the author, > there may be another side to the story you have not heard. > --------------------------- > Was this message Off Topic? We've bought their dog biscuits before from One Earth Shop in B'ham but didn't know about the canned food (since One Earth Shop only sells vegan products). My folks buy Sammi's food so I don't have much say in it really. I preach to them enough as it is. lol. Yeah, Sammi has to be a bit careful because of his diabetes/epilepsy... the vet recommended a canned dog food when he was first diagnosed with diabetes so my mom kind of doesn't really want to switch, and she's fussy and would rather get it from a store nearby than order online. :-/ <3 Shari Black Velvet
Guest guest
Is your mum at all responsive to information? I would really suggest that you give her the book " Obligate Carnivore " , which i can loan to you, if you like. It's a brilliant explanation of all ramifications of switching dogs/cats to a vegan diet. If you want more information or want to borrow the book, just let me know. Good luck. It can be such a struggle sometimes to convince people that it's actually MORE convenient sometimes to order online or that a bit of personal inconvenience is worth it in the long term. k@ > from: " Shari " <shari > date: Thu, 18 Mar 2004 09:59:28 > to: > subject: Re: Re: Canned Dog Food > > > Thanks K@ & everyone else who replied. It's hard enough getting her to look at the PETA Times mag, there's no way she'd open a book. Thanks though. I tried to tell her last night that Yarrah did a canned dog food and she just said that Sammi's ok on what he has and if we move to another food it will mess up his insulin intake and all that stuff. <3 Shari Black Velvet
