The Vegan Society has recently formulated a supplement specifically for vegans and their children. For details see www.vegansociety.com/shop. For the formulation details see www.ivu.org/science/veg1.pdf Cost is 4.99 GBP for three months supply (six months for children under 12, who take half a tablet daily). They've just got a new batch in, but they're selling like wildfire so don't hang about if you want to get hold of some. The formula was devised by Stephen Walsh, author of Plant Based Nutrition and Health (published by the Vegan Society at 7.95 GBP - all profit to the Society, none to the author), and produced by Health Plus (a firm on the South coast, manufacturers of the Veganicity range). The main problem with most multivitamins is overenthusiasm for retinol (pre- formed vitamin A, which can be toxic) and other stuff vegans don't really need. Another useful book from the Vegan Society is dietitian Sandra Hood's " Raising your Vegan Infant - with Confidence " . Price 9.99 GBP. If you can't afford both, though, get Plant Based Nutrition and Health. If you can't afford either, get the multivitamin anyway! While we're on the subject of the Vegan Society, I notice that a lot of new members of this list say they know of no vegans in their area, feel isolated, etc etc. It may be worth reminding everyone that the Society has local contacts all over the country. There are also dozens and dozens of local groups - and you don't need to be a member of the Society to join one. Go to www.vegansociety.com for details. Another useful site for information, contacts, events and organisations all over the world - plus 2,000 recipes from around the world, all vegan (and that's just the English language section!) - is www.ivu.org the IVU being the umbrella organisation for all the world's veg*n groups and all sorts of other kindred organisations. Hope some or all of this will help somebody somewhere. All good wishes, Vanessa
