Guest guest
My doctor suspects my daughter has a wheat allergy and has suggested I put her on a wheat free diet for a few days. I am finding it really hard to find foods for her to eat, especially as we don't have sugar either. I haven't managed to find any bread, only one cereal (puffed rice) as they aren't sure if oats are ok or not, and I have found that lots of meat substitute foods like tvp, burgers etc have wheat in. Does anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions of food that are filling and interesting and will keep her energy levels up. Thanks

Guest guest
Unfortunately, it seems a lot of gluten-free breads etc have egg and/or milk in them, but there are some vegan ones. I believe Ener-G do a vegan, G-free bread. Depending on how sensitive to wheat/gluten your daughter is, you could also try something like rye bread, if you can find one. A brand called Mrs Crimble do some vegan, wheat-free stuff like cakes. There's a company called Dragonfly that do vegan stuff (like veggieburger-type things) that's G-free: http://www.dragonflyfoods.com/index2.htm Plamil are also a good company - all their stuff's vegan and gluten- free, but it's stuff like chocolate and mayonnaise, so I don't know how helpful that is! (They do do some nice sugar-free chocolate though, sweetened with Xylitol - made from birch bark - which might be good if you don't eat sugar). http://www.plamilfoods.co.uk/ I also found this site: http://www.wheatanddairyfree.com/index.htm Dunno if all their stuff's vegan, I've never heard of them before. But it looks like they have a wide selection, so you might find something useful. Check out your local healthfood shop too. You never know what you might find! , " Michelle D'Arcy " <michelledarcy wrote: > > My doctor suspects my daughter has a wheat allergy and has suggested I > put her on a wheat free diet for a few days. Guest guest
Take a look here: http://www.vegfamily.com/health/gluten-free-vegan-diet.htm There are also quite a number of vegan gluten free foods in local health food shops, including a new range of gluten-free Clive's Pies... Guest guest
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, I've been busy looking at lots of sites. I'm reintroducing wheat to my daughter today so I just hope it doesn't have a reaction (wish me luck!!). I am going to give her yeast free foods first though as it has been suggested that it could perhaps be a yeast allergy (as well as perhaps a yeast or gluten allergy!!). Its a real nightmare!! thanks for the support Michelle
Guest guest
Good luck. I hope all goes well and you can get a handle on what's causing the reaction.
