Guest guest
i recently read a statistic that a pathetic o.2% of british people are vegan and 5% are vegetarian, surely this can't be true? If so that is just ridiculous, and a shame on society today, are there really so few considerate and kind natured people in this world? A generation or so ago those numbers were probably about a tenth of what they are now. If things continue at the present rate the whole of the UK will be vegan by 2050. Guest guest
What is your source for this? I haven't heard of a reliable figure for some time, but 2% sounds like a bit of an increase! If it's correct, I don't think it means the other 98% are not considerate or kind natured though... tashacoreen wrote: i recently read a statistic that a pathetic o.2% of british people are vegan and 5% are vegetarian, surely this can't be true? Guest guest
If the glass is filling up (which it is) then you've got to say it's half full... I don't think it will be a linear growth though. I think it will wane off just like vegetarianism has. Guest guest
I think it's just a typo and should probably read 0.2% (?). Guest guest
I think it's a lot more than that. Many years ago, the Vegan Society has it at around 0.5%, and more recently I think the Food Standards Agency had it at around 1% in their surveys. I think a large amount of vegans would be young people that aren't accounted for in these types of surveys so maybe it is more like 2%.... Guest guest
I don't think thats the case with vegetarianism,- I thought vegetarianism was on the increase also? Guest guest
I think it's slightly on the increase, but isn't growing as much as it has in previous years. I'm not sure, I haven't seen any official figures. But it's certainly become more 'mainstream' than it used to be, and there seem to be more people who, although aren't actually vegetarian, lean towards that way for their health and stuff. So maybe that's it: more people are becoming 'nearly vegetarian', or eating veggie on Tuesdays or something. Add up all those 'half-veggies' and you get an increase! , " Joanne " <Kimberley1 wrote: > > I don't think thats the case with vegetarianism,- I thought vegetarianism was on the increase also? > > Jo
Guest guest
Yeah, it probably is, but I mean it's not a linear growth. Can't say that all the immigrants they let in do much to help the figures either... Joanne wrote: I don't think thats the case with vegetarianism,- I thought vegetarianism was on the increase also? Guest guest
Why? It's not a racist comment or anything. Apart from maybe India, I don't know of many countries that immigrants come here from that have a veggie rate comparible to ours - so they're bound to bring the figures down somewhat. Maybe I'm wrong... but that's highly unlikely! ;o) mav lists wrote: > On Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 09:14 pm, James H wrote: > > Can't say that all the immigrants they let in do much to help the > figures either... > > > Now that comment is shocking. Add up all those 'half-veggies' and you get an increase! yeah thats true there are so many 'half veggies' i know so many people who go vegetarian just to try and loose weight or whatever, but there are also alot of 'fake vegetarians', like i once knew a girl, who classified herself as vegetarian but she ate fish chicken sausages and geletin!! what the hell is all that about?!!! and so many people seem to think that vegetarians eat fish, so if they only eat fish they class themselves as vegetarian, well i don't know about everyone else, but i can surely sy that as a vegan/former vegerian, WE DO NOT EAT FISH!!!
