Is it possible to vet new member's first emails to try to stop some of the spam that is getting through?

Hi!

I'm Mary with Kiotis Paris. I just wanted to let you know that i sell Kiotis line of Botanical skin care

products along with Yvesrocher.

The products are all natural and ecofriendly. Made from Plant essential oils and proteins. The product line includes skin care, hair care and make up.

To view some of the products, please go to www.frenchbotanicals.com . When you shop kiotis, there is always a free gift with your order! Its an old tradition that was started by the founder of Kiotis and it has been going on for over 40 years.

The current specials feature lots of nice gifts which include handbags, beach bags and beauty cases. To view them, please go to www.frenchbotanicals.com and click on specials.

My website is still under construction so please do check back often for new updates. Thanks for reading this email and have a wonderful day!

Sincerely

Mary

If there's a consensus on this then we can change the group options

to require that all new members be OK'd by the group owner. The main

disadvantage of this is that it might put new members off from joining.

Usually I just delete any spam and ban the member in question, but I

let the Yves Rocher one go as their products are vegan/cruelty free,

which makes it borderline as to whether it's actually spam or not.

People - let me know - is the amount of spam that we're getting too

high, and if so shall I change the group options to require that all

new members be vetted ?

Hi, I'm Mary and I'm sorry if my email offended anyone. It wasnt meant to. Very few people know that they can get 100% botanical products like this and i'm just trying to let people know. I'll take a look at the rules for posting before i post again. Once again I'm sorry. I usually delete them pretty quickly, so if you read via the

web interface then you probably won't see them, but for people who

prefer to read the group via email it's going to be more of a problem.

This group doesn't seem to have a problem with spam. But instead of

having to approve new members, maybe new members could be on

moderation so they can't just join and spam? I dunno, I don't think

it's a big deal since there isn't usually much spam.

Hi Mary -

Personally I'm OK with a small amount of commercial stuff on this

list, provided that it is appropriate, i.e. vegan products only.

However if there are objections from the members then we may have to

consider limiting it. Currently there is nothing in our " rules and

guidelines " to discourage advertising, so you haven't really done

anything wrong. I'll give it a couple of days to see what people

think about the subject and then we can decide whether anything needs

to be changed.

Regards,

Paul
