Guest guest
Hi, Laura. I'm fairly new here, too. I've only been a veg for about a month. I've been learning how to cook without meat, and it's an exciting adventure. For dinner tonight, I had spinach mushroom manicotti...it was really tasty. Also had a salad and lemon poppyseed cake. YUMMY! I haven't tried the " boco " foods or any other " imitation meat " stuff...I want to wean myself from the whole IDEA of meat...and that means, for me anyway, to not even eat foods that are supposed to taste like meat. You're lucky...I wish we had good veg restaurants here... oh well. happy posting, Rose , " Laura What <franknspice> " <franknspice> wrote: > hi. i was just invited to come here, not sure how i got the invite, but > i'm happy to be here... i've been trying to find some vegitarian groups > where it's not all slow and boring, but so far no luck, i hope this > place is different. > i've been a vegitarian for only 2 years, but i'm hoping to add more and > more years to that. i have found that vegitarian food is really a lot > better than the other stuff. animal parts just aren't really that > great, and they have vegitarian stuff that tastes creepily like what > it's a replacement for, like boca burgers and morningstar pizzas and > corn dogs, but i've grown to enjoy them. > my boyfriend isn't a vegitarian, but he's really sweet about > everything. he took me out to vegan terra in san pedro, ca, they're > awesome! my favorite vegan/vegitarian restaraunts. the 45 min. drive is > worth it. if anyone is in the area, just stop by there, if you want to > know where it is email me and i can tell you. > blah blah blah. i'm going to stop yaking and go now. talk to yall > later! > > much love, > laura
Guest guest
Hannah, I am not in the Seattle region, I admit, but am coming up there soon so I've been checking out the community:). Raw foods have turned my life around!! I was in and out of the hospital with mysterious delibilitating abdominal problems at points a few years ago. I got turned on to raw foods, and my problems went away. There is another naturopath here in Eugene that advocates raw foods as well- her name is Virginia Oram, fyi. Blessings to you, Marcella Hannah <homeopathy wrote: Hello everyone, I am new to the raw foods lifestyle, but in two months i can see it's leading me to brave new worlds. Guest guest
Welcome, Hannah. If you're interested in objective, observable, true science-based (as opposed to the faux 'science' that comes out of medicine) and consistently reproducible knowledge, I heartily recommend the voluminous writings of Herbert Shelton. You also might want to look into Loren Lockman's " Creating Perfect Health " package (www.TanglewoodWellnessCenter.com), which includes 3 videos and 5 audio tapes. I have a couple sets for sale at the bargain-basement price of $295 (Loren sells them for $495). There is also lots of info on my website, including copies of TC Fry's " Life Science " Course for sale, all 2,600 pages. Shelly Keck-Borsits' story might also be helpful to you; she wrote a book about her transformation from suicide-contemplating invalid to healthy and vibrant young woman via raw food and natural hygiene. Here's her website of the same name: www.DyingToGetWell.com. Happy reading and best of luck on your quest for truthful information! One member Jerrod Sessler overcame stage 4 cancer by adopting a raw foods diet (see www.hope4health.org). Guest guest
Dr. Rich Anderson has written Cleanse & Purify Thyself: Books 1 & 2. His website is: www.cleanse.net He has some articles on there, also, some of which are not written that well (IMJ). The information he gives is highly scientific and educational. His books can be purchased at Barnes & Noble. Also, you might pick up Diet For A New America. John Robbins (heir to the Baskin/Robbins dynasty) discusses the protein myth in short, and has a lot of info on why not to eat meat....how the animals are treated etc., and in short, why not to partake of the Standard American Diet (SAD). There are so many authors out there. Dr. Doug Graham http://www.doctorgraham.cc/ has some interesting information. He is more of a Naturalist, however. These are a few ideas, just off the top of my head. There are numerous 'experts' on the subject of raw food. If you have time, you can google 'raw food', or 'live food' and see what you come up with. Guest guest
Hi Hannah, I am a medical practitioner, my licensure is occupational therapy, I specialize in Hellerwork or deep tissue structural integration, and a method of lymphatic drainage and detoxification making use of Nicolas Tesle wave pulsation technology. I have in my body the condition of fibromyalgia which has been greatly helped by the raw food lifestyle, however not cured. I attribute much of my recovery and present level of function to the raw food diet, however it has required other efforts such as specific kinds of exercise and supplements to reach full function, even after 100% raw for a long time. I eat mostly raw now with very small exceptions. I would love to speak with you: (206) 528-5350. I live in Montreal, and I'm currently working at Global Action Network, an animal rights organization that's based here. I study at McGill university and am starting work on a thesis on chimpanzee conservation where there has been human/chimpanzee conflict in Western Uganda. I have been vegetarian for years and am newly vegan. lactose intolerance has caused me to be mostly vegan by default for many years but I am working on making it official. Luckily I hate milk anyway. our family doctor had my mother convinced that we kids should be drinking a giant glass of milk with dinner each day. This of course would make me throw up and give me diarreah so it totally disgusts me beyond the issue of animal cruelty. I get so angry when I see those 'got milk?' ads! Does anyone have advice on how to explain why I'm veg without offending a host? People inevitably ask for an explanation but it's not exactly comfortable to imply that your host has unethical habits or is a murderer while you're a guest in their home. thanks, Julia To send an email to -
Guest guest
Hello Julia Welcome to the group. I hope you enjoy it here. I usually say that I don't like to eat animals/animal products and leave it at that. If they ask more just say it doesn't seem right to you. Sometimes people ask me what I think of them for eating meat - my reply is that I won't tell them what I think because I wouldn't want to upset them. That makes them squirm a little - so is good to use if you are feeling devilish, or if you are just fed up with the question being asked. Guest guest
The youngest (she's 99.9% vegan now) suits her answer to the person asking. For those she knows will react with a closed mind she simply says " food allergies and lactose intolerant. Guest guest
Hi Julia and Welcome! I usually just tell people outright that I am Vegan. And this does tend to make them uncomfortable sometimes but that is mainly because they do not understand. When they ask why, I ask them do they want an honest answer or an easy one. Either way I let them off the hook and say something like " because I found out what goes into the processing of the foods from start to finish and can no longer eat it " . This usually leads to more questions and then I just start out slowly explining how I feel and what I know. I try not to go too in depth about it though right in the beginning. I've found that though most people do not understand it, they accept it and try to help to find me food. LOL But if I know I am going somewhere before that will be serving food like a friends house, I bring my own dish. This way I know I will have something to eat and I can then share with them exposing them to great vegan food. Most people do not realize all the great foods we eat because they cannot imagine not using meat or dairy of any kind. Hope this helps! Guest guest
I think just a simple statement that you are vegan should do it. It's not really necessary to say why. If they really seem to want to know why you can tell them your beliefs, but most don't wanna know why. Guest guest
I LOVE Zen Palate. We usually go to the one at Union Square because we are often in that area, but the one on the UWS is nice, too. Other places we like are Kate's (east village) and House of Vegetarian (Chinatown). I also have an unnatural love for the salad bar at Whole Foods. I know there are other places we frequent, but I can't think of them right now. We used to really like Veg City Diner and we are still lamenting it's closing, which was a few years ago now, I think. I miss those tofu wings!! Although they do have a new location (new name, same owners) on E. 14th that we haven't tried yet. Have you found any good places in DC yet? -Craige On 10/18/05, Jenni Billings <jenni wrote: > HEY CRAIGE! > I didn't realize you were near NYC!! Guest guest
Hi Peter, Sadly, it didn't work out in the end. A whole bunch of little reasons which, overall, added up to it not working. Veganism certainly wasn't the main problem, but I must admit that not having to clamber into leather gear every day did come as a relief. On the other hand, I'm now filling the space left by not having to train every day with more writing. So it has pretty much worked out.
