Guest guest
Nikki O’Leary’s turn to have a shot at the £1000 prize – but it’s not going to be easy because she’s planning to serve a three course vegan meal to four meat loving food connoisseurs. And Nikki has also set herself an extra challenge, not only is she after that first prize, but she’s determined to convert her guests to the vegan lifestyle. Her diners are sceptical, so she’s going to have to work hard to win them over. This site also has the recipes for the dishes that she made http://www.channel4.com/life/microsites/C/come_dine/1nikki.html# The Valley Vegan.................... Peter H Try the all-new Mail . That was in week two shown about a month ago, when the programme returns next week it will be week five. I had never even heard of the programme before until then. A precis of the week as I remember it... Dan the fishmonger started the week by claiming that vegetarians and vegans must be mentally ill, but ended it saying he would be happy eating vegan food now and again. A victory of sorts I suppose. Nikki's starter included Redwood's rashers (the regular ones, not the better organic ones) and everyone said they could not tell the difference from real bacon. I found that interesting given so many people claim the only thing stopping them turning vegetarian is missing bacon. I never know how realistic such things are given it has been so long I cannot remember to compare. But Ian - who won the week scoring 39 out of 40 which is apparently the highest score ever on the programme, he was docked a point by Margaret because of a chip in his bread dish and serving water in plastic bottles - announced that he would be giving up dairy after hearing Nikki's explanation of the dairy industry. Pretty good representation all round really, not only with everyone liking Nikki's meal (well except the pudding - just blended silken tofu and melted chocolote as a mouse which to be honest does not sound overly great to me) but also the other four all showing how simple it is to to make vegan dishes too. Completely aside, but it was hilarious on the first show when Terry was baffled as to why his (non-vegan) pancakes turned green. He cooked them in blue curaçao and I guess he (nor any of the other guests) knew it also came in a clear version. Michael.
