Does anyone want these shoes? (female)

Hiya,

This is a bit of a weird one for this group, but I thought I'd offer these

to another vegan before offering them on Freecycle.

I have two pairs of woman's vegan shoes that just don't fit me, but because

I had worn them a couple of times before I decided that, I couldn't send

them back, and I'm having a clear-out, so I wondered if anyone here would

like them. I'm a size 6, but with wide feet, I would guess that they would

be best for someone with size 6 but narrow feet or a size 5 - 5 1/2?

One pair is a Vegetarian Shoes mary jane style, black, they don't sell them

anymore, but they are similar to:

http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/pc-150-7-ally-sandal-black.aspx but the

strap is velcro, and the material is matt rather than shiny.

The other pair is from Veganstore, they are No Bull shoes. Again, not sold

by Veganstore anymore, but similar to these:

http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/pc-89-7-kalahari-shoe-black.aspx, but with

a white sole, a white strip down the side and a white laced effect at the

front.

I'd really love for another vegan to have these, so please let me know if

you are interested.

Thanks,

Carole

Hey..I don't think this is weird at all. In fact...I have a pair of

shoes that I bought recently, that turned out to be too high of a heel

for me. I posted them on Freecycle, but they've not had any takers

yet. I was hoping to pass them along to a fellow veghead, as vegan

shoes are a bit of a pain to find somethimes.

They are a US size 9, which is a 7UK I think.

See pic in photo album. :)

Does anyone know where I can get some decent looking trainers or running shoes

that are vegan, but are specifically black. I've looked all over but can't find

anything. I'm also a size 6 (UK) which is hard enough to find stocked as it is.

Vegetarian Shoes <http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk> would most likely be

your best bet, although the sizes are listed in EU sizes which mean very

little to me I'm afraid so I've no idea if they do anything in a size 6.

Only some New Balance are vegan, but I think all the models have the

materials listed right on the labels. I've had several pair and liked

them. They've also (seemingly at least) taken some measures to

address the sweatshop issues found in the factories in 2000.

I have a list of which New Balance trainers are vegan somewhere. Let

me know if you need it and I'll dig it out.

Also I believe NB make their shoes in the UK and the US, so the sweat

shop issue shouldn't apply.

Note that if you happen to be in the Lake District area then NB have

a factory outlet there and you can get the shoes at factory prices.

Excellent, thanks everyone. The New Balance M857BK are black, vegan friendly

and made in the UK which should, hopefully, cut out the sweatshop and carbon

miles problems.

The only problem is that out of the four online shops that New Balance suggest

you buy from none of them stock this model.

Oh well i'll send New Blance an email and see if they can help.

just a note wrt sweatshop issue:

The trouble back in 2000 (when they were investigated by some Human

Rights group) was in two areas. First, they would sometimes have

factories in China make the " parts " for the shoes, and then they were

assembled in the US, so sweatshop labor was still partly involved.

The second, more common approach, was to make the shoes in factories

in Saipan, in the Marianas, which is a US Commonwealth. The companies

there (Nike, GAP, and a host of others) were able to skirt US law wrt

to overtime, minimum wages, etc. and still add the " Made in USA " label.

So, back in 99/00, a bunch of Human Rights groups and labor unions got

together a filed a class actions suit against many of the mfrs. who

had factories there. The good news is, that all but one (Levi

Strauss..booo) settled the suits and have subsequently improved

working conditions to some degree, according to monitoring groups like

Sweatshop Watch (www.sweatshopwatch.org).

As of this past spring, when I bought my last pair, there were still

some NB shoes that were made in China, but these were clearly labeled.
