Guest guest
Hi, My wife went into Debenhams the other day, and asked if a perfume had animal products or was tested on animals. The assistant, backing away hurriedly, told her that 'she wasn't allowed to answer those questions'. Has the government really been so successful in equating animal rights with terrorists in peoples' minds that a High Street store would come up with that kind of policy? Anyone else experienced this? Guest guest
They're just doing their bit - striving to help people bask in their ignorance. It sickens me when people put money before truth and decency. Guest guest
But this ALF action is irrelevant surely, and would be a totally different discussion? I'd certainly email Debenhams to clarify their policy, I honestly doubt it would really be their policy not to answer such questions. Assistant sounds a few sandwiches short of a picnic and more likely was just a bit thick and prejudiced against anyone with any AR leanings. Fear is a major cause of prejudice, and it sounds like she was frightened. If Mrs Davis wants an expensive perfume from Debenhams I would think the best bet would be Stella McCartney (I see this is one of the perfumes listed on their website), she is vegetarian and certainly anti-fur so I'm quite certain that there is no way she would allow animals to suffer in making her brand of perfume. Does anyone know if her perfume carries any " no animal ingredients or testing " information on the bottle? I'm amazed she does not promote it more strongly as cruelty-free, surely it has to be? Is it approved by any of the major A-V or Vegetarian/Vegan Soc? If not I wonder why not? Some cruelty-free perfumes are on sale from Honesty (Dolma perfumes) http://www.honestycosmetics.co.uk/dolma%20perfume%20eau%20de%20parfum.shtml Not sure how they compare to Debenhams price-wise or quality-wise. But no I've never experienced anything like this, then I don't go around asking much, I just usually stick to what I know, eg smelly bath stuff from Honesty, Animal Aid, or Lush, etc. I am now tempted to ask some questions in Debenhams and see how they react! Guest guest
Hi Lesley, I think it was actually a Stella McCartney perfume she was asking about. (Great minds, and all that!)
