Guest guest
I'm running a 10K race in September (God help me!...), and thought it would be a good idea to use it to raise some money for an animal welfare charity, but not sure which one to go for... Does anyone have any ideas? Personally, I'd like to go for Viva!, but I can't see many potential sponsors being that bother about such an organisation, so I think something a bit more mainstream would be better - PDSA, RSPCA?? Any ideas? Cheers, James PS - Is my email playing up or has it been incredibly quiet on here for the last few weeks?!
Guest guest
Hi, Viva! is always good. But if you don't want to go for that, how about the Vegan Society? Or LACS? (Personally I wouldn't go with RSPCA, since many argue that they do more harm than good.) Alternatively, you could just pick a non-protest group, a local animal shelter or something, which no one could think to object to. Guest guest
I ran the Bristol half marathon in 2004 for " horseworld " - a local equine rescue charity, and lots of people were quite reluctant about giving money. You might have more luck going for PDSA/RSPCA/dogs trust??? I'd sponsor you a tennar if you did it for Viva! though Jenny , James H <james wrote: > > I'm running a 10K race in September (God help me!...), and thought it > would be a good idea to use it to raise some money for an animal welfare > charity, but not sure which one to go for... > > Does anyone have any ideas? Guest guest
What about Huglett's Wood Farm Animal Sanctuary? http://www.huglettswoodfarm.com/ On Behalf Of Carole Backler 23 July 2007 18:08 Re: Sponsorship ideas? I agree with John - perhaps a local animal shelter? If you pick one that does cats & dogs (not sure where you are), as well as farmed animals, you would appeal to more people. My experience at gathering sponsorship is that your friends will sponsor you because of what you are doing, not who you are doing it for, whereas those who are more removed, are less likely to give money for causes they don't believe in. The money you raise will also 'mean' a lot more to your local sanctuary... as they tend to be living closer to the edge. If you need any help identifying one, let me know, we have lists at work. I've just committed to running 10K at the end of October - which is scaring me quite a bit, having never run in a race before - so any training tips that you have and any lessons learned from your race in September would be great! :-) Thanks, Carole > - > " James H " <james > > Saturday, July 21, 2007 11:39 PM > Sponsorship ideas? > > >> I'm running a 10K race in September (God help me!...), and thought it >> would be a good idea to use it to raise some money for an animal >> welfare charity, but not sure which one to go for... >> >> Does anyone have any ideas? Guest guest
Hiya Carole, I can't see many of my friends being that enthusiastic about raising money for the Vegan Society or Viva!... Can you give me the names of some animal shelters near Huddersfield? I've always done a bit of running since I was a teenager but I'd never done 10K before I started training for this, and I've never raced before. I'm taking it quite seriously though (very competitive!...), so am doing 10K twice a week. If your not used to running, I'd start with doing a mile first and building up to 6 miles (10k) as you feel more comfortable. Am thinking of joining our local running club for more input as well, which they assure me will be worth it... Guest guest
That's what I mean - and I imagine The Vegan Society would be 10 times more unpopular... If I did it for Viva!, I could probably raise £50. If I did for PDSA, etc. I could get over £100... I think the best solution is probably to have two sponsorship forms - a Viva! one so everyone on here can sponsor me?... <cue generous responses!> and a more mainstream one for non-vegans. Guest guest
Cheers John, Yeah, I thought I'd heard bad stuff about RSPCA - will avoid them. Who are LACS? Between Viva! and The Vegan Society, I'd go with the former as I get the feeling they achieve better results with their money. John Davis wrote: > > Hi, > > Viva! is always good. Guest guest
Hi, LACS are the League Against Cruel Sports. A good group, but possibly not the best one to go for if you want to avoid putting off potential sponsors. Especially if you happen to live in the countryside!
