Guest guest
I have a problem and hope someone has some suggestions. A beautiful pair of Gold Finches are nest building in a low and immature tree just in front of our window. It's a joy to watch them but I'm very worried the rats have easy access to their nest. It's very low down and I have seen the rats climbing up to get the nuts I had put out. I moved the nuts and got what I thought was a rat proof hanger only to find a rat had chewed through the chord to make it fall to the ground. I heard it drop so rescued it and will suspend it using wire but how can I protect the nest from the rats? I do have an electric point outside, would a sound emitter be ok or would that affect the birds too? We are very near a canal so not really much hope of getting rid of the rats totally unless the sound method can be used....or someone has a better idea. Needless to say I don't want to harm the rats. I have used human traps and rehomed them miles away but as they are so clever they are now wise to this keep well clear of the traps. Guest guest
I admire your intentions, but are you interfering wit nature? I`m sure this part of the food chain is happening up and down the country. I wish I had a suggestion, but I think a rat would find a way around most obstacles, as they are very tenacious, and quite intelligent. Hope you figure it out.
