Hi Don,

Wish I'd had the chance to ask them. However, it has encouraged me to get

it in writing and I will ask such questions in my request. I can't find an

email address for them so it will be a few days. I'll also inquire about

the whole Artois family.

Hi Tom,

I am a bit scheptical about this. InBev are not the kind of brewer to suddenly

change their recipe to accomodate anyone?

Thanks Peter,

I don't think it's about accommodating people. My first thought is that

following their recent image change (The Famille Artois brand, dropping the

" Reassuringly expensive " slogan, and avoiding the product being described as

" Stella " ), they have opted to attract the fine beer lovers with a subtle

reference to the reinheitsgebot. I think it may be a cheaper process too.

Any thoughts on this Don?

Best wishes,

Tom

PS

InBev also control Becks who boasts the reinheitsgebot on the back, or at

least used to.

stella in no way follows the reinheitsgebot tho...

they use corn....

for the record

In May 2008, an advertising campaign was run in the United Kingdom reporting

that Stella Artois is only made from four ingredients: hops, malted barley,

maize and water. Technically, the process also uses agents such as yeast for

fermentation and isinglass for clarification [1]; " The animal product that we

use is Isinglass (fish finings). This is a clarification agent made from certain

fish. It assists clarification by attracting the yeast cells causing them to

coagulate into larger particles which then separate from the beer, giving the

beer a clean and clear appearance. " (Interbrew 19-Nov-2003).

i'll just stay away from it to be safe

don't like it anyways

Hi Peter,

You've just used a reference to 2008 followed by a reference from 2003.

I've emailed InBev and I think I'll wait for a more up-to-date account.

If Stella is vegan it certainly makes drinking in some bars much easier, so

as a vegan it is an issue that interests me greatly since I am always

telling people around me that a vegan lifestyle is easy.

Hi Tom,

Let us know what the official reply is. By the way Hieneken is vegan, and in my

opinion tastes cleaner/better, Grolsch used to be but isnt now, but wasnt fussed

on it myself. What I realy miss is a vegan dark/stout. The only ones I know of

but cant find around here are Samuel Smiths.

Hi Peter,

I certainly will. I'll keep a look out for vegan stouts too. Perhaps the

Erdinger Dunkel? In Wales, maybe some from Thomas Watkins or there's

another brewer who's name escapes me.

I agree that Heineken tastes much better, and where possible the German

wheat beers win hands down for me, it's just sometimes a struggle to find

places that sell them.

Iechyd da!

Thanks Don,

I quoted this website on a previous post but someone posted that it might

not be reliable, because it lists Guiness, Skol and Strongbow. I think

Guiness and Skol are not vegan, nor is Strongbow from a can or keg.

Apologies, after looking closer I've realised that there is more to the

site. For those who only saw what I saw, the brands listed on the front

page are just ones the web owner discusses further into the site content (at

the top click on BEER).

However, there's still some ambiguity here - Peter vv said Grolsch is no

longer vegan, but the site claims it is. The trouble is that brewers do

change their methods from time to time.

Hi Thomas, alas The Thomas Watkins like Brains and all the other Welsh brewers

are users of the accursed isinglass.

Have you tried some of the unfiltered stuff you can get inbottles? thats vegan.

At the moment my fae is Hoergaarden.

Re: Stella Artois

Iechyd da!
