Hello!

I' ve been distributing sets of leaflets to eateries. My query is whether

numerical strength of vegans in U.K.should be mentioned in those leaflets.

The way I've been doing is:A write-up from my own side(and another

friend)attached to a set of 3 different types of Vegan Society's leaflets.I m

attaching a copy of my write-up.Please go through it and tell me whether stating

the figures is self-detrimental and harmful for vegan cause .My friend says it

is since a restaurantuer would read it in terms of,'oh, only a mere 150,000 out

a total of millions of U.K. population. So, I shouldn't worry at all about it

even if vegans don't come to my place '.Till now, we are distributing our

leaflets in this way only, but if this friend is rather more right in her

thinking then, may be I'll not mind changing the phrasing of our write-up.

Thank You in Advance!

I guess this is one of those that does not permit attachments

in case of viruses, since your attachments did not show,

Thanx Lesley for letting me know. The following is that write-up:

Dear Restauranteur,

November 1st is World Vegan Day , and the whole of November is Vegan Month!

In the U.K. and many other countries around the world, activities and events

are taking place to raise awareness among the general public of the benefits,

for humans as well as to the environment and the welfare of animals , of

adopting a vegan diet.

Statistics by Defra and market research organisations show that the number of

vegans is steadily growing, particularly in the UK .This might amaze you but

presently, there are atleast 150,000 vegans in U.K. alone. Eating

establishments are therefore losing out on a lucrative growing source of new

business if they do not offer vegan foods and drinks in their menus. Many of us,

who are vegans for ethical, religious or health reasons ,would love to eat away

from home more often, but the lack of suitable menus in most restaurants and

cafes makes this difficult and disheartening .

Therefore , we would like to invite and encourage you to make us your

customers by offering vegan items in your menus. This is actually much easier

to do than you might imagine! Most of the time this involves simply

substituting a non-meat or plant based ingredient for a meat ingredient in a

dish.

With this letter, we are including a booklet from the Vegan Society which

offers advice and suggestions that will enable you to attract vegan customers.

If you need further help or advice or would like to discuss our proposal in any

way, please feel free to contact us at any time; we will be delighted to assist

you!

We look forward to visiting you again!

With Best Wishes,

I invite everybody's suggestions on this write-up.Is it o.k. or something can

be deleted from / added to it , to make it more effective? My query initially had

pertained specifically about whether our numerical strength should be mentioned

in it.I feel 150,000 is a good enough no. to make somebody sit up and start

noticing us, considering that majority of those' somebodys' have not even known

the meaning of vegan before receiving the leaflets. My vegan friend, who's been

with me in leafletting, thinks otherwise. She feels a figure as little as 150,

000will not encourage a cafe owner to think of us.

Thanx in advance!

Thanks,

I really need to do this too, and if I can find the time I will (with your

permission of course!) use your write up as it sounds very good to me, very

persuasive.

Veganism is pretty much unknown in my local area (Hampton) and I am sure I

could deliver something like this to my own local eateries around Hampton

and Hampton Hill.

Which Vegan Soc literature did you distribute with this letter, so I can get

hold of some if I don't have any?

You have truly inspired me as I feel I am not active enough in reaching out

to various eating places!

Sorry for so many questions!

Hi Lesley!

Thanx for appreciating my efforts.Ofcourse, you can use my write-up as and

where u want to.

The leaflets r of 3 types-One is the one having 3-4 vegan

recipes(chickpea-mushroom curry being the first one), second is 'Why

Vegan'-having a cow's face ; third is 'Costing the Earth'. I distribute a set of

4 of these(one each of my write-up, and the 3 leaflets)put together by a paper

clip(to make it more presentable)to every possible eatery.Ofcourse, Mary is

always around/ with me, as a great support.
