Guest guest
There is a 10 Downing Street petition you can sign here http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Antifreeze-Kills/ to stop animals being poisoned by antifreeze and suffering a horrible death, it only takes a minute. Please forward the link to others, Frances.
Guest guest
Hi! With all due respect to your sentiments , may I kindly ask you whether you believe in the efficacy of online petitions? Do you genuinely think online petitions work at all?If yes, could you give me some past instances where it has indeed worked? I, for one, have signed the petition since I feel very strongly for animals (and human-kids) but don't think it would matter at all to those concerned With regards, Sonal " fj.flanagan " <fj.flanagan wrote: There is a 10 Downing Street petition you can sign here http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Antifreeze-Kills/ to stop animals being poisoned by antifreeze and suffering a horrible death, it only takes a minute. But havind said that, they don't take much effort to sign, and as a side-effect they may also help to increase awareness - I for one wasn't aware of the issue of animals being poisoned by antifreeze prior to this. Guest guest
Hi Well I think it does matter and therefore if you are able to bring it to the attention of decision makers it will register on some level and while the effect will not be immediate it will contribute in some way to change for the better in the future. rebecca --- On Wed, 19/11/08, sonal - <sonal_greens wrote: sonal - <sonal_greens Re: Antifreeze petition Wednesday, 19 November, 2008, 10:21 AM Hi! Guest guest
I've no idea if any online petitions have worked before, but I thought signing it was so easy that it could only do more good than harm. I heard about it from another group, and knew nothing about antifreeze having poisoned animals before. I also think that permanent changes comes slowly, and it usually takes ages to raise awareness about issues before you can expect any real change to happen. Guest guest
I don't know if an online petition can have much effect with the PM, but I think they must raise awareness amongst the public. However, I can't see this one being taken seriously: it is badly written, and it doesn't tell me how anti-freeze kills animals, so I (for one) will probably have forgotten about it by tomorrow... sonal - wrote: > > Hi! > With all due respect to your sentiments , may I kindly ask you whether > you believe in the efficacy of online petitions? > Do you genuinely think online petitions work at all?If yes, could you > give me some past instances where it has indeed worked? > I, for one, have signed the petition since I feel very strongly for > animals (and human-kids) but don't think it would matter at all to > those concerned > With regards, > Sonal > > " fj.flanagan " <fj.flanagan > <fj.flanagan%40btinternet.com>> wrote: > There is a 10 Downing Street petition you can sign here > > http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Antifreeze-Kills/ > <http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Antifreeze-Kills/> > > to stop animals being poisoned by antifreeze and suffering a horrible > death, it only takes a minute. Guest guest
I agree with you that petitions are mostly good for raising awareness. However, I didn't think this was too badly written: " Ethylene glycol, the main ingredient in almost all major antifreeze brands, has an inviting aroma, a sweet flavor—and a deadly aftertaste. Its appealing smell and taste often tempt animals and children to drink the highly poisonous substance. " That tells you how it kills animals (although they did spell " flavour " wrong!). And the petition also has a clear aim, although whether the PM will act upon it is another matter entirely! , James H <james wrote: > > I don't know if an online petition can have much effect with the PM, but > I think they must raise awareness amongst the public. Guest guest
What wasn't obvious to me is how do animals and children come across anti-freeze in the first place to be able to drink it? gothcatz wrote: > > I agree with you that petitions are mostly good for raising > awareness. Guest guest
Naughty little children opening bottles and glugging back the contents?! lol. It did mention in the petition about making sure spills were thoroughly cleaned up and that the antifreeze was stored safely. That must be what they meant. But then, that should be common sense anyway! , James H <james wrote: > > What wasn't obvious to me is how do animals and children come across > anti-freeze in the first place to be able to drink it?
