Guest guest
Hi! I've two kids of 3 yrs. age. What should I do abt. their pre-school Christmas party? Its on 17th Dec..It makes me uncomfortable, thinking abt. the egg-carrying muffins and cakes and gelatin, etc. loaded toffees which they all would be given there.Should I not send them to the pre-school that day or should I try telling my little ones to stay away from the cake(I think its unappropriate at this young age.Still, I do it sometimes, eg., once they were given muffins at school which they got home. While they were eating it, I told them, there were birds' babies inside it!My daughter left the muffin, though my son continued eating it!) or what else can I do?One good thing which vegan mothers can do on such an occassion is bake a vegan cake for the whole class and let that become the kids' christmas cake. This would also help in popularising veganism. But I m not such a good cook or should I say, baker!?! Please give your opinions/ suggestions! Thank you, Sonal Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Invite them now.
Guest guest
Maybe you could buy a cake, if you're not that good at making them? Try somewhere like Blue Lotus. Although that can get expensive! It also depends on how supportive the teachers are. If they are supportive, then you can explain your concerns to them and enlist their help. Maybe give them vegan food to give to your children at the party, sweet " junk " food so they won't feel left out. Maybe see if any of the food the pre-school's providing will be vegan - crisps etc. Maybe popcorn, or some brands of chocolate bourbon biscuits are vegan. Things which are cheap and " normal " . I know telling them to stay away from certain foods probably won't be so successful, since they're too young to really understand. Good luck! , sonal - <sonal_greens wrote: > > Hi! > I've two kids of 3 yrs. age. What should I do abt. their pre- school Christmas party? ... > Please give your opinions/ suggestions! > Thank you, > Sonal
Guest guest
Hiya Sonal, If it was me, I'd find out what food was going to be there and just get send some vegan equivalents. If cake, etc. is too much of a pain (which it would be for me) then I'd give them something else they really like - flapjack, etc. and one or two nasties that they're not usually allowed, just so they feel they've got something special rather than thinking they've just got something different/worse than everyone else. I certainly wouldn't keep them from going, anyway. BTW, it's not just mothers that look after children!... Guest guest
Hi Sonal, As a teacher, I would say definitely DON'T keep them off school, and definitely DO talk to their teachers and assistants. If they have a child in their class who has dietary requirements due to allergies/religion/ethics then it is their job to ensure that the child does not eat anything they shouldn't, and they should take it very seriously. If you provided some alternative foods as people have suggested, it would make their lives much easier though And you should give the baking a go I have some easy cake recipes on my website www.parsleysoup.co.uk !
