Hello!

At times,I get unwell and I feel conscious in 'revealing' it to my no-vegan

friends for the fear that they may attribute it wrongly enough to my being a

vegan!'She's not eating properly, that's why she is ill.'Does it happen with u

guys too?

Dear Lesley, how have u been doing? The Health Mantra shop, it may be only a

local outlet in my area. I m not sure. For long term cure of asthma, yoga is the

best.Infact, very simple exercises are needed in it.Most importantly, the

exercise called,'praanayaam'.Its easy. One only needs to ascertain the correct

way of doing it.It gives quick results; 'quick ' as not in 'quick fix' but

really fast results!

I've been struggling with headaches of late.Off and on, they keep happening.

Any good, vegan solutions to it, friends?

Bye!

Hi,

Yea, I only tend to get a cold once every few years, but when I do some

non-vegan or other always tells me it is because I'm vegan so I must be

unhealthy. This from people who seem to spend half their lives with some ailment

or other!

Headaches...some of the over the counter paracetamol-type pills are almost

vegan, I think. Which is to say that nothing in their ingredients shouts

non-vegan, but then again they have been animal-tested. Other than that, have

you tried 'headache sticks'? You kind of rub them on your temples when you feel

a headache coming on. They seem to work if you can catch the headache in time,

but don't touch a pounding headache. There's one in the new Animal Shopper, by,

um, Diomed. I found one in a health food shop. Oh, and as you mentioned yoga,

you probably know that meditation can sometimes help a headache, though

personally, just as often I find I'm just sitting there thinking about my

stinking headache, which isn't helpful!

Hi Sonal,

There are, I think, as many different types of meditation and purported results

as there are people meditating (or at least, teaching others how to meditate!).

From those who just 'think calm thoughts' every now and then, to regular

long-term meditators with thousands of hours of sitting time. I'm no expert, but

if I were to be so bold as to offer any advice, it would be to take your time to

research, and find the method/technique/path/instructor/faith that will suit

you.

Hi John,

My own version of 'meditation' is basically based on

'Praanayaam'.Simple-inhaling deeply(with the lower abdomen as much pulled out as

possible, so that one may inhale as much oxygen as possible), taking a pause,

then exhaling deeply(this time compressing the lower abdomen a much as possible

to let out all the carbon dioxide.).Keeping the thoughts as much stable as

possible, during this process.

I'm lucky, in that I don't tend to get ill very often and even when I

do no one seems to blame it on my being vegan. In fact, I remember my

sister (being very drunk at the time!) telling the man in the chip

shop about how I wouldn't go into KFC with her because I was a vegan

and that I never get ill and it's so amazing(!).

As for headaches, someone already mentioned a headache stick, which

has essential oils such as menthol and eucalyptus and I've heard is

pretty good. You could also try something like feverfew tablets,

which you take regularly as a preventative rather than only when you

have a headache - it's good for migraine sufferers. Whether it would

be worth taking it all the time depends on how often you have a

headache and how bad it is. Also make sure you drink plenty of water -

dehydration is a big cause of headaches.

If non-vegans say anything about you being ill and vegan, ask them

how their own health is! And if you have a headache, say it's not

because you're a vegan but because you're always having to deal with

people asking stupid questions and making ignorant assumptions!

Oh, completely understand. I used to get ill so much before becoming a

vegan - like, flu three times in one winter. Since then, I think I've

had it once in over 5 years. Nevertheless, any tiny thing and it gets

blamed on my being a vegan. Completely mean and irrational, but there

you go. I'm healthier than most people I know . . . if people are

healthier than me it's only because they exercise more. But I think

that's partly because I know I can't get ill because I'll be judged

harder for it.

Seriously though, my mother thought I would die when I became a vegan,

and absolutely everything was blamed on it. If I slept too much, if I

slept too little, if I was feeling down, if my grades could have been

better . . . she really thought my brain would die because of it. And

that nobody would want to marry me!

So what can we do but strive to be the picture of perfect health?

Hi i'm not sure if this is helpful, but there is a fantastic short book

that I read a while ago on yoga, and pranayama. Please dont be put off

by the author, but it is Aleister Crowley's, Book 4. The book is split

in two, the first half is conscise and detailed yoga information and

practice methods, the second half is magic, but if you can ignore that

I really do reccommend reading the first half for anybody interested in

yoga, there are some excellent excercises in the book. Nath :)

Hiya Nath,

The second half sounds more intriguing than the first half!... What do you mean

by 'magic'?

Cheers,

James

Well I am not to sure if this si the correct forum to diiscuss lol,

however Do you know of the author, Crowley? He headed the largest

occult order in britain, and wrote many books, including much in code

containing " secret rituals " , and a book for human direction. The thing

that attracted me to the works of Crowley was that he was not simply a

mystic, he's knowledge of science, and psychology were outstanding, and

I would see his " magic " as a way of training the human mind to its full

potential, and exploring the possibilities of the human. The latter

part of book 4 deals with rituals however, magic circles, the correct

attire, communicating with gods etc. However as with all of Crowley he

needs to be put in context of the whole of his work, I see him as more

a existentialist/libertine, than an occult figure. However if your

heart desires, have a delve, he has taught me alot, although he was no

Vegan, however did have a profound appreciation for nature, was a

mountaineer and a poet, sorry guys for going off subject, I was just

answering a question, don't worry I shant be posting random messages,

and I hope this helps James :)
