Guest guest
Hi! I thought I must share this with all you friends! We were invited to a X-Mas party this past Sun..The hosts r meat-eaters.So, while the hubby was shouting to his wife to take out the chicken from the oven, etc. I wondered what must my toddlers(two of them) be making out of it! Among appetisers they had made one chicken dish, and one vegan. I had somewhat of an intuition that I might be left hungry if I didn't 'fully utilise' the appetiser!I was so very right! It turned out that for the main course they had made one chicken dish(perhaps it was chicken again!), and one milk Indian cheese dish. The 2 accompaniments for both the dishes had milk again! So, I was left ' kind of hungry'. Where does pride come into the picture? In the gift we took for them.I had purchased a regular gift for them. But at the last minute, I decided to try out a cake from the recipe book purchased from the Animal Aid XMas without Cruelty Fayre recently! So, instead of that non-inspiring gift, we gifted them the cake! The reactions of the other guests and hosts-The host couple's hubby was shocked by how come it got baked so well, without the eggs!(' did u put yeast in it?')Ofcourse, there wasn't any yeast in it.His wife did seem to have a bias against it for it being guilty of being vegan. She didn't even taste it !(for this reason, I always take care not to reveal to non-vegans initially that my dishes r vegan. But that day I couldn't avoid their coming to know of it , before eating it.)The guests, on the whole, liked it.Most of them didn't know it was vegan. The recipe I tried was chocolate banan cake from vegan cake scoffer book. Very easy recipe and very conveniently found ingredients. This incident has inspired me a great deal to finally bake vegan cake for my toddlers' christmas party at school! With love, Sonal Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Invite them now. Guest guest
Hi Sonal, Thank you for sharing your experience of dining with omnivores and pride in your baking. I often take pride in cooking delicious vegan food to show non-vegans that we can eat well! It was recently my boyfriend's 40th birthday party, so I was up until the early hours the day before preparing lots of food for the party. I hired baking tins in the shape of the numbers 4 and 0. I made a mint chocolate cake for the 4 and a banana cake for the 0, including appropriate frosting. Putting aside modesty I had to agree with my step-dad when he told me that the mint chocolate cake was my best ever. I like amazing non-vegans that so many dishes can be made without dairy or eggs. I see cooking as one of the best ways to persuade people towards veganism. Best wishes, Robin P.S. I just discovered that none of the Green and Black chocolates are vegan any more. Instead I now use Plamil or Divine. , sonal - <sonal_greens wrote: > > Hi!
