Guest guest Posted December 17, 2002 Report Share Posted December 17, 2002 Kath: My kids were really freaking out about this at first (they are aged 4, 6, 8) but I pointed out to them that they will still have the choice at school to eat the same things their friends eat... just in my house we don't eat meat! It has only been a few months and my oldest is chosing things with " the smallest amount of meat " in them to eat (he picks the pepperonis off his pizza and separates things when he can--he's into the spirit of the choice). I figured that that amount of freedom would lead them to make good choices when I say to them, " I trust that you will do well. " I can't expect them to go " cold tofu " at this age and with that freedom, but my son is certainly becoming more sensitive to food choices and the options he has available. He brought me the menu today and asked if he could take a peanut butter/jelly sandwich on the " big meat days " next month... I almost cried! I read somewhere that children can relate to the " being nice to our friends the animals " concept a lot better than the nutrition aspect, and I think that hits it on the head. -dawn ps. congrats on your remission. that hits close to home and I will certainly be praying for your health.
