Guest guest
Hi there, My questionnaire answers are as follows:- 1. Stayslim (ex Woodenbowl2003) 2. 61years old 3. Guildford, England 4. I'm not a true Vegetarian, as I do eat meat, but I would rather eat fish. Over the years I have never really enjoyed it but eaten it and kept quiet! However, give me a year or so and I may well be a true Vegetarian! Within our family unit both my son-in-law (to be) and my daughter-in-law (to be (Laura)) are Vegetarians so I may well get persuaded! Time will tell so as they say "Watch this space"! 5. Shepherd's Pie take some beating but I've never cooked Vegetarian mince! There's a challenge for you, Laura! 6. My son, Laura's boyfriend thought I might be interested! 7. Keep at my B.M.I (Body Mass Index) and eat healthy food. 8. If ever I go out for a meal my first choice has, is, and will be, "Fish and Chips" and I was born and bred in the "Home Counties", not "Up North"! 9. The Weight Watcher's site. 10. Weight control has always been a way of life for me. As a member of Weight Watchers for nearly 20 years (Gold I might add) I do now how hard it is to lose weight and maintain it! PS Food for thought! Do any of you know anyone who thinks they have the perfect figure? If so I'd like to meet them! Let's face it, all us females strive to better ourselves, and after you've had a few children it's even more difficult! Guest guest
Hi again, Carol - or Caz, I shoulda said ;=) Just re-read your intro. And I have to applaud your plans to start swimming - it's always difficult to find an exercise that is comfortable for those of us with weight to lose, but swimming is an excellent one! Not only that but it's fun too, which is an added bonus. And the gym with your daughter? Bravo! Let us know how it all goes! Guest guest
Richard, I had to smile when I got to your last statement about a pointless degree, especially the " linguistics " part (linguistics being a branch of anthropology). Don't give up on yourself (not that you implied that you would). Oh so long ago, I was passionate about my degree in medical anthropology, and at that time anthropology was rather a self perpetuating thing (I'm pushing 60). You advanced in degrees so that you could research, write, and teach others to do the same thing. Applied anthropology was a mystery, really. However, now I am on an intense spiritual path that draws much on my training in traditional medical systems with their intimate relationship with the spirituality of the " primatives " involved - but what I DO to put food on the table is accounting. Sigh! The universe knows what it does with its cells, and spends nothing but rather invests all. So, submit to the flow and continue on. Guest guest
Sylvia ... Getting older cats was strange to me at first because I did want somewhat younger ones but when I went to the shelter and they took me to this room and these two cats came to me and started to cuddle, well I couldn't resist them. My cats names are Buddy Holly and Sammy Hagar. Buddy Holly is a black cat and weighs 16 pounds and the other is Sammy Hagar and he's a brown tabby and weighs 14 pounds. When they get in trouble their names are Budster and Samuel. We had a cat named Daisy Mae but had to put her down in Sept because of a heart problem (she was 14 years old) and this is the first time we've had two cats which is a challenge. I adopted these cats from a shelter and before I got them they were checked out by a vet, fixed, declawed and micro chipped. The vet said their weight is normal for their size because they are big boned cats and both cats are in great health. We've only had them for less than three months but already they've settled in nicely and have their routines. They know what time we wake up, what time I go to bed, what time we get home from work because they're in the livingroom window when I drive up. What a riot they are. I have no regrets on getting older cats. We don't have kids so they're our replacement. Barb D
Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Barb. I have three cats myself, 2 years, 18 months, and 16 months. I just wanted to say that it's really cool that you've adopted older cats. Most people want kittens, and there are a lot of wonderful older cats that need homes as a result. What are their names? --Sylvia

Guest guest
Samantha Lea wrote: > Thank you for adopting from a shelter. So many animals dying every day. > > Samantha > Very off topic. When my son was 12 and his cat died, we went to the shelter and got a orange striped animated cat. He's now 12. What a brilliant cat. He opens sliding glass doors, cabinets, hides in draws. I'm allergic to cats, but he's overseas, and I use a lot of benedryl Then another cat started hanging out by my front stoop. We said, " don't feed it " . It will go away. After a few days, I guess it was living off lizards (there were no more lizards around), we gave in to giving " Him " a little bit of dried food. " He " still wouldn't leave. Then some high end food. Finally, after reading lots of labels, and all the junk, we went back to feeding our old cat tuna, and him too. Well, we started worrying that He was pregnant. The ASPCA offered discount spaying and shots , called them up, and when I used the word, " Feral " semi adopted , they said they wouldn't work on Ferrule cats. So, to the high priced boutique local Aloha Vet Clinic, and we found out that he was already spayed, and that She was about 6 years old. We ran up a fortune having her teeth cleaned. I guess someone just dumped her off. I feel really good about saving her. And, I'm really glad that He was not pregnant. I'm sure some of you folks try to feed you cats vegetarian options. I just know that people are configured to be basically frugarious, while cats are carnivores. My cat loves cantaloupe, soy burgers, and a who host of veggie foods. But his favorite sound is the can opener.
Guest guest
Hello everyone, My name is Lisa. I'm 40-ish and living in Largo/Clearwater Florida. I married and full-time employed Labor & Deliver wing. I have an 19 year old and twin 17 year old daughters at home.... one more year.... As a child I basically was an unknowning vegetarian (milk, eggs). I disliked meat. I became a young adult and started fast food...I'm trying to go back to my roots. The hubby and myself are the only ones willing. The girls aren't going for it, but guess what I'm the only one that cooks in the house!!! Guess they will be changing too. For health reasons my change must happen.... I need to lower blood pressure, weight, and my blood sugars. So I will be a regular in this group. The fish are biting. Guest guest
Welcome, Lisa Isn't it absolutely wonderful that you are going back to your vegetarian roots AND that your husband will be doing it with you! Good for you - both of you. As for your girls, well they're pretty near 'adult' now, the 19 yr old actually is, and they will have to please themselves, I guess, unless of course they want to eat in your home LOL Either that, or they'll learn to cook for themselves, which would relieve you a bit too, I imagine. >... I need to lower blood pressure, weight, and my blood sugars. So I will be a regular in this group. Well, it's pretty well regarded these days that to do those things you should be on a low- fat (some suggest fat-free) eating regime without all the refined starches, sugars, etc., and lots and lots of wonderful vegetables and fruits. So you've come to the right place, because that's what we say too. If you must still have some dairy, I'd suggest limiting it and making sure that what you do have is low-fat. No problem, though, since we have wonderful recipes (go to our Homepage, click into 'Files' and there they are!) - and if you have difficulty converting a higher fat or non-veg recipe to vegetarian low-fat, let us know: we're pretty experienced, as a group, in doing that, so there is always someone to help. I look forward to chatting with you more. Take care. Best, Pat (Co-Owner)

I became vegetarian about 2.5 years ago and lost about 50 lbs, and kept it off for about a year or so and then I quit smoking and put back about 75 lbs. I have been fighting to take it off ever since. people tell me that since I am vegetarian I should be skinny and not have a weight problem. This is a problem that I have had all my life not just now.
