Guest guest
> Can I just take string beans instead? Sorry, I sometimes forget not everyone here is posting from the US. <sheepish grin> No, GNs and stringbeans are nothing alike. Do they sell dried beans where you are, either in bags or boxes or in bulk? Then look in the dried-bean section of a supermarket or healthfood/ wholefood store. Great Northerns are fairly large, very tasty dried white beans. You could also use dried lima beans (butterbeans); that's delicious. I'm not sure cannellini (white kidney beans) would be quite the same, but you could certainly try 'em. Navy (pea) beans are okay, but not as flavorful. And black beans are tasty, but the millet comes out _looking_ kinda grey and funky, so you might not want to make it for company. :-) Do cook the beans from scratch; canned is definitely not the same.
