Guest guest
Many people try to make compote or jam, or some other use for the etrog as a food. This is not wise. The etrogim are grown with a great deal of insecticides and chemicals. They are not grown for use as a food. No amount of soaking and washing, and even peeling can effectively remove the chemicals used whem growing the etrog. If you must make use of the etrog, then with a small nail, punch holes in the skin and place whole cloves. The etrog will shrink while drying with time. This makes a year round source of a great smelling object for havdalah.
