Jann,

Small world, well, kind of: I'm 53, been a vegetarian for 28 years and went

raw Jan 1st 2004.

I will not go back. I have about fifty items, physical, mental and spiritual

that got resolved after about three weeks. Oh, dropped 15 lbs. in four weeks

as well.

[Raw Food] Welcome

I have been a vegetarian for about 18 years and went 100% raw on Christmas.

I lost 15 lbs very quickly and have stayed there easily. I do believe that

my memory has gotten better since I went raw as has my digestive/elimination

track.

Hi List

It sounds as if we may need to start an " I just turned 50 list " ...because I

I went raw January 6th and I have the same resolve to " not go back " .

I'm also a svelte 150 lbs. I could drop as low as 145, maybe even

142/3 without worrying about it. I hope as my raw years go by though

that I stabilize at a specific weight. My guess would be a plenty

healthy 145 for my thin boned 5'10 " frame.

Oh...wow...I instantly like Fraggle.

I'm new to the group and I live in Illinois, 15 minutes from St. Louis.

I'm a new vegetarian (2 months) and new to tofu. I fried some last

week in stir fry and loved it.

Where is the best place to buy tofu? I bought it in a regular grocery

store (Schnucks) for around $2.50.

Welcome Mike! Used to live in Ill myself. Springfield, Chicago-land

and Champaign-Urbana. Fraggle's suggestions are good. If you don't

care about getting organic, Asian groceries are your cheapest bet for

tofu. Many even make their own, which you can buy bulk and is SO

tasty! Some carry organic, though, or could be convinced to do so.

Sounds like I will have to venture over to St. Louis and find an

Asian grocerer. Thanks for all your suggestions. I have lots to

learn, but I am so focused and jazzed about becoming a vegan. It's

very exciting.

Sara- I lived in Springfield for 5 years and earned my B.A. at the

Mike;

Congrats and good luck to you. For me, veganism is the best thing I

ever did for myself. We are all ready to help with recipes,

suggestions, thoughts...

I am totally partial to Asian groceries after having a Korean

roommate who showed me what awesome things they have. Just browse

around for some great foods and ideas.

You are one of the few people I have " met " from Ill not from the

Chicago-land area. I went to college in C-U, but my folks lived in

Springfield for something like 10 years.

Hi Dorith,

Welkom, I hope you will enjoy the list as much as I do. My name is Eliane,

born in Switzerland and live now in Amstelveen (but I always write

Amsterdam). Maybe we do have some people we know in common. Would be fun.

Tell us more about yourself. Where in Israel do you live ? Do you come often

to the netherlands ?

Groetjes

Shalom to all,

I am a new member and would like to introduce myself to you. My name is

Dorith and I come from a meat-eating family in The Netherlands. Almost 39

years ago I came to Israel and years later I married a man who is a

vegetarian since birth as both his parents were vegetarians. Our household

is vegetarian, with dairy and eggs. I am now 58 and we have three children.

Only the oldest is still a vegetarian (after having eaten meat for a few

years, outside our home of course)

I had to learn how to cook all by myself with the help of cookbooks as

there were no parents or good old aunties around.

I hope to learn a lot from you all. I myself am not very imaginative in

cooking, so I usually use recipes from books or the net. Am I allowed to

share recipes from cookbooks? Maybe that is not interesting to most of you.

Wishing you a tasty meal ~ Dorith
