Guest guest
Shalom, I am very surprised to read that Zahal does not provide for vegetarians. Our second son Itai is a soldier at this very moment. He has become a meat-eater outside of the house. However, I know from my own past voluntary work in the army, from my husband's time in the army and from asking Itai right now, that there is always enough food for vegetarian soldiers. Also, our daughter who finished her army service some time ago, could get enough vegetarian food. First of all, of course, the vegetables and fruit. But as Itai said, there is usually something made by Tivall. There are plenty of eggs. Actually, my husband can hardly stand eggs, because when he was in the army (many years ago), he ate so many eggs that now he never wants a boiled or fried egg. So I wonder where your son is serving and why there are no provisions for him. I am sure that if he talks to his commander and the cook, things will be okay for him. Our oldest son started smoking in the army (he was in a special unit with a lot of stress apparently), and that I regretted. Luckily, he now hardly ever smokes (neither do my husband, I myself and the other two). Wishing you all the very best ~ Dorith The all-new My – What will yours do? Guest guest
Miso, edamame and other japanese style protein products come freeze dried and in packets. They would be like k-rations and he would have to rehydrate them in the field or his barracks, but it might be worth looking in to. I am not sure if you would find them with kosher certification though. BL
Guest guest
My vegetarian daughter (who is a combat soldier not an office worker) hasn't had a problem. " Shnitzel Tivol " is boring but no worse than what the meat-eaters get. Usually there are also hard-boiled eggs for breakfast. Just to make sure I give her dry roasted soybeans and organic dried apricots (high iron content) as a supplement. Shoshana --- " Brandel D.
