Guest guest
Did anyone see the article on the 'Green Scene' on Ch4's teletext last night about scientists being able to grow meat on plants?! Apparently they've already managed to 'grow' a chicken breast and fish. What do you reckon to that!?!! If they can do it without causing any harm to animals I think its brilliant as far as killing off the meat industry goes. I'm sure its going to involve animal testing somewhere along the line though. I'm not sure I'd want eat it myself even if it was ok though - I've totally gone off meat since becoming veggie/vegan and wouldn't touch it with a bargepole! Guest guest
I didn't see that one Hayley although I did see an article in the Daily Mail on Thursday about the current genetic modification of animals It's nasty - like something out of Frankenstein I didn't read the detail too much - I was in a petrol station (!) however there was one bit about young animals in the womb growing so large they had to be surgically removed.... The other question they are looking at is producing animals which have no feelings eg. fear - a bit like breeding creatures with no central nervous system therefore eliminating the 'cruelty element' In principle I think this is an interesting idea although it begs the question - if you're so bothered about animal cruelty why don't you go Veggie??!! I must admit the idea of meat replication is heaven - seeing the end of the meat industry would be fantastic Although in reality I'm not sure whether it would be about as popular as the current GM backlash What makes me laugh is that whatever section of society all this research is aimed at (and clearly trying to stop animals suffering seems to be top of the agenda) already have countless meat alternatives Vegetarian companies have been producing them for years I reckon it's just another excuse for all those 'scientists' to satisfy yet another sick curiosity And yes, you're right, there may well be animal testing involved so the poor creatures can't win either way Onwards and upwards Bye for now Katy > " Hayley " <blue143 >vegan-network >vegan-network > Meat on trees... >Thu, 28 Sep 2000 16:07:25 -0000 > >Did anyone see the article on the 'Green Scene' on Ch4's teletext >last night about scientists being able to grow meat on plants?! >Apparently they've already managed to 'grow' a chicken breast and >fish.
