Guest guest
Has anyone ever encountered the problem that it is sometimes easier to get on with Meat Eaters than Veggies. The last two jobs I have had have had a Fellow Vegan and a veggie. Whilst the Vegan was sound, we were both too wrapped up in our own worlds to pursue are friendship (we still do by e-mail but face to face was always too much hard work). The Veggie in my present job really irritates me with the way he covertly condescends on the others and expects me to support his moronic bovine hypocrisy. I often find it much more relaxing and stimulating to chat and be stupid with the Carniverous masses, even though their lunchtime habits and lack of ethical insight is cataclysmic. Am I alone? Guest guest
No Dave - you're not alone and you're not weird!! I have encountered this myself. I think we sometimes create the situation ourselves in that subconciously we think that just because someone is a fellow Veggie we're going to think they're the dog's bols and we're all going to get on famously In reality sometimes 2 highly passionate individuals can clash big time and there is, in my view, an element of truth in the saying 'opposites attract' I remember when I first got into animal rights I'd convinced myself that if I could hook up with like minded people it would be the answer to everything The reality was that I came away from meeting some people thinking 'you're a bit of a wanker' (as I'm sure they did of me!) The problem was that I somehow felt that I was cheating the cause of animal rights because I wasn't madly in love with everybody involved The reality is that now I try and be a little more detached - I maintain a big respect to anyone who's involved in the cause and would always try and help where possible - and when it's needed everybody comes together If I strike up a friendship in the process that's a cool bonus! I try now wherever possible not to just see 2 types of people on this planet - carnivores and us nicer people!! (oops there I go again!) Sometimes it really tests me... I think what fucks me off more than anything (and I'm sure everyone's fed up with me saying it by now!!) is when people say, 'Oh yeah I really love animals as well' and then they go and devour a burger or half a bird for lunch!! The world is a strange place! Hope this makes sense! I'm going now before I start waffling! (too late, they cry!)
