Guest guest
Can anyone answer a question my mum has about organic food?...She's has been debating whether or not to buy organic food due to the fact that manure is used. She says that if they use manure they are going to be getting it from the meat industry and therefore contributing to it. Obviously pesticides are bad too and probably kills loads of animals living near the farms. It would be ideal to buy organic food that hasn't been grown using manure but in the case that its not available is it better to buy organic or not? any thoughts?... Thanks! H. Guest guest
Organic every time! I must admit that sometimes I have to remind myself that Organic doesn't mean Veggie however I would imagine that Organic farmers would only be able to use organic manure so in a way they are keeping themselves self sufficient by getting manure from their own cows whether they be for meat or dairy I can completely understand your Mum's point however I would support organic every time - don't forget that millions of animals undergo abhorrent testing in the name of fertiliser and agrochemical safety every year I guess it's a case of looking at all the pros and cons and going with the most ethical option that you have at that time - difficult I know! By the way did anybody see the front page article from the Daily Express last week trashing Huntingdon Life Sciences? Front page headline! Please, I would urge you all to write to Jack Straw in light of this article and demand that this facility be closed down In case any of you didn't see it, once again HLS has been exposed as being responsible for a catalogue of errors and negligence which has led to appalling suffering by the animals involved. The article focused in particular on the vile xeno-transplantation research going on They are now about to be investigated by the Home Office for the FOURTH time If anyone wants to see a copy of the article before they put pen to paper please let me know and I'll be more than happy to send you a copy Also when you get a spare moment please try and visit Dr Vernon Coleman's website which can be accessed through the contacts directory at Vegan Village - IT IS FANTASTIC! He talks very candidly about why animal testing is scientifically so fraudulent and gives many examples of where test results on animals completely oppose the desired human results He is also a good authority on the actual laws relating to pharmacueticals and the use of animals for testing I find all this information particularly useful when writing letters! I'm defo on for the 28th - looking forward to it! Speak to you all soon Luv Katy ps. If anybody has any old books, records, tapes, etc that they no longer require give me a shout and I'll take them off your hands - can collect from wherever - no problem I need more gear for my boot sales to raise money for anti-vivisection campaigns You might even be able to lay your hands on old household / childrens items as well I do them on Sunday mornings so I'm always available on the Saturday if you've got anything for me to collect! > " Hayley " <blue143 >vegan-network >vegan-network > Organic vs. non-organic >Wed, 27 Sep 2000 11:22:16 -0000 > >Can anyone answer a question my mum has about organic food?...She's >has been debating whether or not to buy organic food due to the fact >that manure is used.
